Picture in Picture: Grease: You're The One That I Want – Episode 7

Shows

Apologies to those of you following this show via my incredible insights. Unfortunately, I totally forgot to record last week’s episode. I have now given it “Record All” status on my DVR, so there will be no more missing the show.

First up is Ashley S. She has consistently been the best person on this show. She does These Boots Are Made For Walking and it really didn’t work for her at all. Her voice down in low registers didn’t really work. I know she picked the song to show a sultry side but this was a strikeout.

Second is Allie, who does a song I don’t recognize. Her performance is strong, but she has problems singing while moving around or more to the point, she yelps and screeches when she’s getting tossed around by her partner. One would think you wouldn’t want to start your dancing/singing combos with a song that involves quick movements.

Third is Laura. I have not been her biggest fan over the last few weeks, but she knocked this out of the park. She did Fever and, smartly, started with a song where the moving/singing was at a minimum and pulled off sultry and steamy. Perfect song choice and great performance

In the sing-off, we found out that the lowest vote-receivers were Kate and Kevin. However, the judges may save them! They sing Blue Moon to stay alive. They’ll stick with America’s choices; since Kate is the weakest singer remaining and Kevin the Irish Kid looks the least like an Italian greaser.

The panel has voted and we’re informed that this was the first time the vote-off was not unanimous. They have chosen to save Kathleen and Chad, going with America. I find out that this is the second straight week that Kathleen was in the bottom 4.

Last up is Kathleen. The judges wanted her to do “sweet and innocent” and, to her credit, she tried. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work. I can’t really explain it more than that. In honor of the kickoff of Idol, she was pitchy through most of it. Listening to the judges, it was the director who chose to vote her out, as she believes this might not be the part for her. I would have to agree. I expect her to be in the bottom two next week and the judges would be insane to choose her over any of the other three.

Frankie Avalon perform Beauty School Dropout with the remaining women. All due respect to Frankie, but you have to be able to afford better than a wig that looks disturbingly like a bad Brady perm.

Preview for next week shows the guys all saying bad things about each other, including one of them saying that Austin “overperforms,” thus proving they’ve never actually SEEN a show on Broadway.

The judges were, unsurprisingly, most wowed by Laura.

Summary

They fixed the stage microphones so the singers aren’t drowned out by the crowd, so points there. Otherwise, the show has gotten better after filtering out the people who aren’t so good and the remaining contestants are improving. Next week, I expect to see Kathleen eliminated and we’ll see the guys perform.
