This was a very interesting week. The February “sweeps” period ended on Wednesday night. That meant that Thursday night was filled with “reruns”. That shifted things slightly. Also, we have a new hit show on FOX. Would that show be able to help FOX take control of the #1 spot this week or would CBS continue its way to ratings domination? Surprise! Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? is a ratings hit. Of course, when it debuted it followed American Idol every night of the week, so their numbers may be slightly inflated. Still this new show for FOX has helped FOX win three nights this week, including Thursday night. It didn’t hurt that Grey’s Anatomy was a “rerun”. That definitely hurt ABC, though, as it fell to fourth place with its top show.
CBS was still able to dominate this week and take #1 again. FOX made it close for awhile, but it couldn’t keep pace with CBS in the end. Looking at the overall rankings for the season. CBS is well on its way to winning this season outright. FOX has made up a lot of ground, but it’s still #4 overall. NBC and ABC are going back and forth for #2 in the overall rankings. ABC has built up a lead again on NBC, but who knows what will happen from week to week.
As for the shows, well this past week FOX had the top two shows but after those shows the bottom fell out. American Idol is still #1, EXCEPT for when it comes to overall numbers. Dancing with the Stars 3, which ended in Fall still had slightly better numbers than American Idol so far. This will be quite interesting as the 4th season of Dancing with the Stars begins VERY soon. Can that season compete with American Idol directly, even though I think ABC has scheduled it away from the #1 show on TV right now? We will have to find out in the coming weeks.
