Arnold Schwarzenegger is not going to step out of his office and have a robotic skeleton under his skin any more. James Cameron is not in the plans to step behind the camera and take direction. But there will be more films based on John Connor and his fight against the machines.

Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar no longer have the rights to The Terminator franchise as they have been bought out by Halcyon Co. for an undisclosed amount. Halcyon is a privately funded company and acquired the rights to the produce the films, merchandising, and licensing.

Terminator 4 is already in the works and getting the green light ASAP now that Halcyon has the rights. Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson, creators of Halcyon, are co-producing the film with the producer of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, Moritz Borman. The script for the fourth film has already been written by T3 writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris.

The Terminator franchise represents by far the most popular and successful franchise not owned by a major studio. We this global franchise as a cornersteon of Halcyon’s future business plans.” said Kubicek.

There is no director set and no cast for the film yet, but already a release date of Summer 2009 is what they are shooting for. The film will pick up with John Connor in his thirties leading whatever remains of the human race in the war against the machines. It is said this is not a continuation so much as the start of a new trilogy.

Borman then went on to say, “With T3, we included many incidental details and plot points that, along with the main narrative, set the stage for an entirely new set of interrelated stories covering the future adventures of John Connor and the Terminators. This new Terminator trilogy will build upon the already huge worldwide Terminator fan base.”
