Low Blows: Tyson and Roy Jones Jr Return, June Fight Schedule, and James Toney

Results From Last Week

– All 229 lbs of James Toney eked out a split decision over Dan Batchelder. Toney needs a reality show or a radio show. Just give him something new to do since boxing isn’t so much his strong point any longer. I don’t know who Batchelder is and neither should you.

– Lamont and Anthony Peterson were both victorious in their bouts on ESPN Wednesday Night Fights. Lamont scored a TKO of John Brown in the 8th round while Anthony beat Luis Ernesto Jose by 9th round TKO in the main event.

– Arthur Abraham retained his IBF Middleweight Title with a third round TKO of Sebastien Demers.

– Marco Huck scored a majority decision over Vadim Tokarev. Huck becomes the #1 contender to the IBF Cruiserweight Title held by Steve Cunningham. Cunningham became the new champ with a majority decision over Krzysztof Wlodarczyk. It was the second time these two have fought, splitting each. A third seems likely.

News Bits

– Mike Tyson wants to return to the ring…as a cornerman. Tyson has already applied for a license but the application was incomplete. Tyson has already been advising Sultan Ibragimov for his June 2nd bout with WBO Heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs but he wants to be a part of his corner as his chief second. Mike Tyson as a cornerman is awesome. I rescind my request for a James Toney reality show if this can come to fruition.

– Roy Jones Jr will return to the ring on July 14th to face Anthony Hanshaw. Hanshaw reached the finals of a super middleweight tournament on Showtime and fought Jean Paul Mendy to a draw in the finals. This bout will be contested at light heavyweight. Jones couldn’t have picked a worse date for this fight. HBO is offering up an awesome tripleheader for free while Jones/Hanshaw will be on PPV. Any of the three HBO fights will be better than Jones/Hanshaw.
