NFL Shortens Draft Time In First Two Rounds

After a record breaking draft this past April, commissioner Roger Goodell has shortened the first two rounds. The 2007 draft’s first round took a record six hours and eight minutes.

The first round of the draft had each pick’s time cut from fifteen minutes to ten. The second round will have each pick’s time go from ten minutes to seven. The first day of the draft has also been shortened to two rounds that will begin at 3PM EST instead of noon.

The second day of the draft (Sunday) will now consist of the final five rounds with five minutes between each pick. The 2008 draft to be held April 26-27 will begin at 10AM EST instead of 11AM. Both rounds will be covered in full by ESPN and the NFL Network.

We believe this will make for a more streamlined and efficient draft,” said Goodell.
