Random Reality: Josh Clinton Interviews Beauty and the Geek's Luke Neyer

Features, Interviews, Shows

Last week, Luke and Katie got sent home from Beauty and the Geek. Another strong team bit the dust, but I had the chance to speak to Luke about his experience on the show and how it has changed him? Here is what he had to say…

Josh Clinton: Hey Luke.

Luke Neyer: Hey Josh. How are you?

JC: I’m doing good. How about yourself?

LN: I’m doing good.

JC: Cool. So tell me what were your thoughts on the change of format for this show this year. You had a male beauty and a female geek for the first time. Did you think it was fair to have Nicole there?

LN: I was really hesitant about how Sam and Nicole would play out. But it almost turned out okay. Sam and Nicole were actually the team that me and Katie got along with the most. I talked more with Sam, the male beauty, than any of the other male geeks in the house. Which is funny since you have all of these engineers and all of these other guys who I have a lot in common with, but I ended talking to Sam more which really surprised me. Nicole, she was a favorite of all of us. She and Katie bonded and I got along with her as well. However, as far as if it was fair or not to have them there, I’m not sure. Since they were so different it helped them stick out in our minds, so on challenges I don’t know if that was a good thing since you were constantly reminded that they were the team that was reversed.

JC: Right. When you first saw Katie and were teamed up with her, what did you think of her?

LN: Actually, I had a “top four” list of who I wanted to be my partner and Katie was on that list. Hollie was at the top of my list. But Erin, Rebecca, and Katie were all on the list as well. Katie, I thought had a good sense of humor and was really nice. I don’t know what it was about her. I just had a good impression of her. Even though, I didn’t get Hollie as my first choice, it actually turned out pretty well for me because me and Katie go along fabulously.

JC: That’s cool. After getting to know her for all of these weeks, was there anything that surprised you about her?

LN: Katie is actually really, really smart. We had a lot in common. Katie is more than just a girl that makes heads turn when you pass her on the street. She has this comforting or calming power about her. Everyone would come to her when they were upset and she would calm them down. She would always makes things alright. Katie just brings out the best in people, and is a great person all around.

JC: Yeah, it seemed like it on TV. Compared to the other geeks, it seemed like you were the most outgoing at the beginning. Do you think that was an advantage for you and Katie?

LN: To be honest, I don’t know. Everyone did realize that me and Katie were actually a pretty strong team, which is probably why they wanted us to face off with Sam and Nicole. Everyone else wanted Sam and Nicole gone and they thought we had a good shot at beating them in the elimination round. But Sam and Nicole were also very smart, and things didn’t work out that way.

JC: Right. When they told you that all the geeks were getting a makeover, what did you think? Were you excited about it, were you nervous, how were you feeling?

LN: I was a little apprehensive about it, because I have had the same haircut for as long as I can remember. I was very partial to it and very protective of my hair. But at the same time trying new things is not necessarily a bad thing. These are professional people after all, so I trusted them with my hair and I let them do what they did.

JC: Yeah, well it was a pretty good makeover. You were obviously disappointed that you didn’t win the prom challenge with your new makeover. Do you think you should have won instead of John?

LN: Oh no, I thought John had a good shot at winning. But I knew that if John didn’t win, I was pretty sure I was going to win. Like I said, I had never won anything like that before so I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to win. But I was still happy with the opportunity to compete in something like that.

JC: Right. So all the geeks picked their dates for the prom. Why do you think Shay wasn’t picked by anyone?

LN: Shay is a lot smarter and can play the game better than a lot of people give her credit for. She is really the one person that is changing the outcome of the game.

JC: That’s interesting. If Rebecca didn’t go home last week, do you think one of the geeks would have picked her to go to prom or would they have not picked her so she could stay home with Sam?

LN: People did not like that relationship. I didn’t mind it, because I got to know Sam and even after Rebecca left he was still a pretty good guy. I think others didn’t like it, because it was two beauties hanging out together and the other geeks didn’t want that trend to develop.

JC: Yeah, do you know what Shay and Sam did at the house while everyone else was at the prom?

LN: They were studying. Sam must have made like 500 flashcards. That was bad for us, since he got a lot more time to study that we did. But at the same time, it really didn’t matter since the questions in the elimination room didn’t come from any of the study materials. They were just random questions that anyone could have gotten wrong. I actually got both of Katie’s questions wrong myself.

JC: Yeah, was there any reason Katie had her jacket in her hands during the elimination round?

LN: Katie always carried around that blanket that you saw in the elimination round. She has a green one and a pink one and she carried them around everywhere.

JC: Oh, okay. Now I have to ask you this question. Besides Katie, who do you think was the hottest beauty in the house?

LN: I think Erin was pretty.

JC: Yeah, you did pick her for the prom.

LN: Yeah, I liked Erin in terms of looks. I liked all of the beauties for different reasons. Erin was very beautiful and had a great sense of fashion and style. I liked Hollie because she was so energetic and I joked around a lot with her. She helped energize me. Each beauty just had really different qualities that I liked about them.

JC: Right. So what are your plans now?

LN: I’m interviewing for jobs right now. I’m also going on about 2 or 3 dates a week now, which before the show I might have gone on 2 or 3 dates a year. So that’s a little different. But I’m just having a good time right now.

JC: Alright, that sounds very cool. Good luck with everything and thanks for your time.

LN: Thank you.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
