The show:

Over the years there have been many documentaries and films about The Beatles. After the Anthology mini-series there really wasn’t much of a story left to tell. While this DVD does contain unseen footage and new interviews there isn’t much here that any avid Beatles fan wouldn’t know by now.

The Unseen Beatles tells the story of The Beatles career on the stage from when they first set foot in the United States and the beginning of Beatlemania in 1964 to their last ever live show in San Francisco in 1966. Interviews with friends and associates mixed in with archive footage and some rare home footage are the materials used to tell the story.

It must be pointed out that there are no actual Beatles songs in the show, so if that’s what you’re looking for, look somewhere else. This is just a bunch of talking heads and old grainy footage. If you’re are Beatles fan then you’re sure to get something out of it, but it’s nothing special or mind-blowing.

This DVD billed as The Unseen Beatles is actually an episode of the BBC show, Timewatch. The episode is titled “Beatlemania” and aired on January 12, 2007.

The DVD:

This show is presented in 16:9 enhanced widescreen and stereo sound. The new interviews look fine but the old archive footage is very grainy and, well, old.

The Extras:

Extended Interviews: (40 min.) These are the uncut interviews that were used in the episode. So you get a little more information than before. These interviews are almost as long as the episode and get really dry after a while.

Rare footage of The Beatles in Jersey: (3 min.) This is some home footage of the Fab Four cut together with some bland piano music.
