Episode 9

– Matt Serra gets to pick the quarterfinal matchups but Dana White wants to hear all the guys say who they want to fight. Serra wants to put Hughes’ guys against each other to guarantee another gets eliminated. Danzig and Hughes would both have a problem with that if it does indeed play out that way. Come on. What do you think Matt Hughes would do if the roles were reversed? I’m sure he would buy wings, and then put both of Serra’s guys against each other. The fights are, in order of occurrence:

Mac vs. John
Matt vs. Troy
George vs. Richie
Ben vs. Tommy

– Dana hits Serra with the news that he must give up two of his four fighters that are matched up with each other to Hughes’ team. As Dana expected, Serra didn’t like the news. Serra pretty much refuses to make the decision and Dana is forced to flip a coin.

– Mac likes his chances against John. He expects his experience to trump John’s size. John, on the other hand, was the only guy to call out Mac during the fighter meetings so he’s going in optimistic as well.

– Mac is turning into a crabby pants. Everything is pissing him off and he feels like he needs to change his ways or else the rest of his life will follow a path of depression. That’s a deep response to someone moving your hummingbird feeder.

– The coin flips are in. Going to Team Hughes are Richie Hightower and Matt Arroyo. Richie gives some gay speech to Hughes about awkwardness but the only thing awkward his the speech itself. Hughes probably hates these guys now.

– Mac made quick work of John in the fight. There was nothing John could really do. He was losing on his feet and he couldn’t take Mac down. Mac eventually wore John down and got a rear naked choke victory with about two minutes to go in the first round.

Episode 10

– Now that Hughes has two of Serra’s guys, Serra doesn’t want to corner against his own fighters. Troy makes a good point in saying that Matt Arroyo will have Team Hughes in his corner, and now Troy won’t have Serra in his corner. Suck it up Serra. You don’t have to tell Troy to smash the other guy’s face. Just coach your guy.

– The Coaches Challenge is centered around bowling. The winning coach gets $10,000 while the winning team gets $1,500. Dana claims he doesn’t know if either man can bowl. Hughes claims he is a terrible bowler. Is he pulling a Ken Shamrock here? That Coaches Challenge was essentially set up to give the perennial losing team some good mojo. Is Dana pulling the same thing here? Hughes wants Dana to double the $1,500 payouts to the fighters on the winning team and Dana agrees on the condition that Hughes immediately bowls a strike. I guess we are about to see where Hughes stands. The ball is down the lane and it is a strike! Dana even says that Hughes just “Ken Shamrocked” him.

– Matt Arroyo is cornering Matt Serra in the bowling competition. Apparently it came down to the last frame. Serra got a spare and put the nail in Hughes’ coffin. HA! So Matt Hughes just doubled all of Matt Serra’s team’s money.

– Troy still felt a little slight from Matt Serra for not cornering him going into his fight with Matt Arroyo. Arroyo got the takedown early in the fight and soon thereafter secured an armbar for the submission. Dana White wondered how Troy could hang out and train with BJ Penn and have zero ground game. No response was given to Dana’s query.

– Up next is George vs. Richie. A little standup starts this off before George gets the takedown. George is patient and changes positions from mount to side control with ease. George goes 69 on his ass and locks in the kimura. Richie yells and Herb Dean asks him if he is tapping. The fight is over no matter the referee’s confusion.

– On the next episode, a prank war erupts that turns physical and the final quarterfinal bout pairs Ben against Tommy.
