A Revamped Jason Voorhees On The Way?

News

Mr. Disgusting over at Bloody-Disgusting.com got a treat that is too rare for any of us to ever imagine happening. Next year, Platinum Dunes will be releasing Friday The 13th showcasing the return of Jason Voorhees. Mr. Disgusting got a first-hand look at the concept art and possible poster for the new film and he describes it for everyone in small doses of course.

February 13, 2009, the Valentine’s Day that will be remembered for a hockey mask – and gallons of blood. That holiday weekend New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes’ Friday the 13th will bring the iconic Jason Voorhees back to the big screen for an insane twelve time. This sunny morning turned black as B-D was lucky enough to see some official development art for the film, which you can read about inside.

Jason Voorhees first entered my life back when I was six, and since then he has become one of my favorite icons of horror. The movies themselves hold a special place in my heart, but let’s be honest… Jason has never really been scary. Even as a little kid I could easily watch Jason slaughter his victims, while anytime Freddy Krueger graced my screen I would have to hold my hands over my eyes. Jason X was an abomination and I’m confident in saying I’m excited for the new film, which is said to make Jason more terrifying than ever before.

Last week I visited Platinum Dunes, the production company behind such remakes as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror and The Hitcher. While there I was treated to something I had not expected, something that nearly knocked me on my ass – I saw the potential art designs for the new Jason Voorhees, along with the possible poster art for Friday The 13th!

What I saw was all temp, so the art design still needs to be approved, but what I was shown pretty rad. There were three different pieces of art lined up across the wall, two being a close-up of Jason Voorhees’ face, the other a full body shot. They all had a very harsh green tint to them, which gave all the images an unsettling (and watery grave) look. Unfortunately I’ll be destroyed if I go into details, but I’m quite sure it’s going to please every one of you.

It’s still insanely early to judge, but it looks like Platinum Dunes is on the right track and from what I hear this one is going to be BRUTAL. Keep your eyes posted here for more info in the coming weeks, maybe you’ll catch a sneak peak at the art yourselves?
