Fox prepping 'Firefly' Blu-ray release

Disc Announcements, News

At first it was a just a rumor, but that rumor spread like wildfire. The Digital Bits had first reported that one of the stars of the canceled show was recording an audio commentary for with the intention that it was for a new special release of Joss Whedon’s Firefly.

Now, TV Shows on DVD has posted an update to the rumor and is confirming that FOX is in the early stages of preparing a major Blu-ray box set release of the short-lived but much-beloved Joss Whedon series.

When TV Shows on DVD approached the studio for comment on the rumors, they were reportedly told by a Fox rep that “news travels fast.” The rep went on to confirm that a ‘Firefly’ Blu-ray release is currently in the early development stages, though supplement details and a street date window were a long way off.

Considering the short-lived series’ devout cult following, and the fact that it can currently be seen on Universal’s HD channel, this can only be good news for those aspiring ‘browncoats’.
