Independent Run Down For 6/6/08

Columns

Hey there, David Wells back here for another week of Independen Run Down and this week I’m here to put the spotlight on Southern Cal’s own Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG).

PWG is a California based compnay who rarely travel out of state. However, they have traveled to Europe before and even have a Japan tour planned. PWG is sometimes referred to as ROH-lite or the ROH of the west coast due to its high quality product.

PWG books several west coast talents such as Joey Ryan, Human Tornado, and Super Dragon just to name a few. They also bring in fly-in talents as well such as Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, Jack Evans, Necro Butcher, and the Briscoes. There are of course many other fly-in talents they book which you can find if you head to the roster section over at PWG’s official website.

As noted above, the product is one of high quality which is sometimes comparable to ROH. More often than not, the shows produced aren’t usually aren’t on the same par with ROH but they are near that quality and virtually better than any other Indy you will find in the States. PWG does employee some comedy into their product with the likes of Joey Ryan and Scott Lost among others.

Right now, PWG only has two championship. One being the World Title which is some what in limbo but Human Tornado is still recognized as champion despite having an injury and the second being the Tag Team Championships which are held by the duo of Roderick Strong & Jack Evans.

Now, PWG returns to action following an action packed an successful DDT 4 tournament. You’re probably asking yourself what exactly is the DDT 4 tournament. Well, PWG brought in some of the best tag teams around and had them wrestle in a two day tournament. The tournament decided who were the tag team champions and who had the bragging rights for best team around. More of those details to come later. But, PWG returns to action on June 8th.

Before we get to the June 8th card, we must revisit the DDT 4 tournament and run down the results for that tournament.

Night One
-Hook Bomberry defeated Nemesis
-Los Luchas defeated 2.0 to advance in the tournament
-Roderick Strong & Jack Evans defeated Scorpio Sky & Ronin to advance in the tournament
-TJ Perkins defeated Candice LaRae
-El Blazer & KAGETORA defeated Scott Lost & Joey Ryan to advance in the tournament
-Austin Aries defeated Jay Briscoe
-Kevin Steen & El Generico defeated Super Dragon & Davey Richards to advance in the tournament

Night Two
-Davey Richards defeated Austin Aries
-Roderick Strong & Jack Evans defeated Los Luchas to advance to the finals

So there you have it and as you can see the shows you clearly successful and feature many matches any Indy fan would like to see (especially the finals). Now, moving forward to the June 8th show…

There’s the card as it’s listed for PWG presents It’s It (What Is It?)

One last thing I’d like to mention is PWG has just released two new shows this past week which can be purchased at Highspots.com or ProWrestlingGuerrilla.com. Also, while there you can pre-order this year’s DDT 4 and the huge PWG Sells Out DVD which is due for retail release on July 15th. The DVD will feature all of PWG’s best matches and will be a great way to introduced people to the product. So, don’t forget to check that out at a Best Buy or FYE near you.

Well, that about wraps things up for this week and as always thanks for reading and your feedback is appreaciate. Don’t forget to check in next week as I run down the east coast’s Chikara and it’s upcoming Young Lions Cup tournament.
