Hi there.
In case you’re wondering what happened, Mr. Michaels asked me about jotting something down for you all to read ’bout every other Monday. Thus, every other Monday I’ll post whatever comes to mind and try to keep it ‘Rasslin’ oriented. And starting next Monday, I’ll get back into the swing of things with my FanFiction work here, specifically the Invasion 1986 story.
Before logging in to begin my typing for this column, I decided to check out the YouTube video for Jeff Jarrett’s big return to TNA. Those of you who know me well enough know that I immediately stopped watching when Shief Amir Daviari or whatever he’s called now made his, “raping America,” comment. I figured it was beyond stupid, even by Russo standards and with the program struggling with the latest in So Cal Val Madness and Samoa Joe being very UnJoe like decided it was time to just stop watching. Really, the only thing I can think of that’s come closest to sensible from that league has been Sting drifting more into the heel side of things, which given his real life persona towards the fans is not only appropriate, but way past due. In short, Steve Borden is a prick. Then again, being a prick towards fans outside of the ring is what, “He,” would do or something.
But enough of that. The main thing that caught my attention was the launching of the New Blood 2.0 storyline in Jarrett’s return speech. I remember World Championship Wrestling in 2000 and while Jarrett made it clear in his rant that TNA is not WCW, it’s arguable that TNA is indeed WCW.
Some examples…
Under utilized light heavyweight division, which in WCW was the Cruiserweight Division and in TNA is the X Division.
Jeff Jarrett being at the forefront of the big storyline between the older crowd and the younger crowd, with Jarrett representing the latter.
Vince Russo involved from a creative standpoint.
Really bad storylines.
Kevin Nash, Booker T and Sting’s involvement. Wait…Booker T and Sting… I’m imagining the musical guys by those names on the same stage (interesting image).
At this point, all that’s needed is for an actor to wind up with the TNA World title and we’re set.
I did find it amusing that Jarrett claimed that he knew how hard it was to be able to break into the business, seeing as his break came in the form of debuting in a company ran by his father and all. It was also nice to see Mick Foley (last seen getting his head bashed in by Edge) on TV again. But please forgive me if I don’t seem too terribly excited about TNA’s latest WCW storyline. Last time Jarrett was involved in one of these, it led to the death of a company. Let’s see if history winds up repeating itself in Orlando.
Other than that, Matt Hardy’s still ECW Champ! Woo hoo! By the way, according to Mr. Szulczewski’s rules, I’m allowed to root for the Hardy Brothers without repercussions due to my status as a proud North Carolinian. Therefore…woo hoo once again!
In closing, I’ll cap off each of these things with a recommended song. Just because I can.
