Gossip Girl – Episode 2-5 Review

While the this week’s Gossip Girl installment wasn’t as indulging as I hoped, it was packed with the standard drama fix we all expect–and secretly long for.

Blair spends the entire episode seeking approval of someone–anyone who will listen. Serena is officially back in the limelight and she can’t handle being second best. She actually had some really annoying and whiny scenes, which were hard and painful to watch. And this is coming from a Blair fan.

Dan is still working with that famous author guy and working on his own story. Of course, the guy thinks Dan’s story, which is based on his life, is boring. And really, who can blame him? Dan’s history doesn’t exactly scream scandal. But you know who’s does? That’s right. Dan goes to Chuck to learn what it’s like to live life a little differently.

Jenny is still working for Blair’s mom Eleanor, and she is actually taking interest in Jenny and her work. But, much to the disapproval of Rufus, Jenny has been skipping class to work for Eleanor’s fashion line. And I’m sure you can guess who told Rufus Jenny’s little secret. It seems the recently dethroned queen bee is a little on the resentful side.

In a storyline I have a hard time caring about, Lily is searching for a nude photo that was taken of her in the past by a famous photographer. It turns out Bart bought it and has been keeping tabs on everything Lily has done in her life to make sure his image doesn’t get tarnished. His little dossier apparently has something that Lily doesn’t want anyone to know…Yawn. My guess is it’s a photo of her hooking up with Rufus the night before the wedding. But, I’m honestly hoping it’s something a little more scandalous than that.

Chuck and Dan drink, take some pills and hit up some sex clubs. You know, because that’s totally Dan’s scene. Well, the male bonding doesn’t last long and Chuck kicks Dan out of the limo in the rain without his shoes. When Dan comes back to hang out again, Chuck is obviously surprised. He spills some secrets about how he is constantly seeking his father’s approval and how his mother apparently died while giving birth to him. Once again, I feel bad for Chuck. He is just lonely and despite his evilness, you can’t help for feel for him. Anyway, Dan gets in a fight at the bar and they both end up in jail. Poor Chuck finds out that Dan is taking notes for his story, and there goes that semi-friendship. It was nice while it lasted.

Blair is trying to sabotage Serena at Eleanor’s Fashion Week show and Serena isn’t having it. With the advice of a famous friend (What kind of name is Poppy?), Serena goes off on Blair about how she is sick of always making sure Blair isn’t feeling insecure. An argument ensues and from the looks of it, this friendship is over for a while. Blair, in a rare moment of guilt about switching dresses so Jenny’s dress goes down the runway instead of her mom’s, sticks up for Jenny and tells her mom to take credit for it. Meanwhile, Jenny tells Rufus she isn’t going back to school.

I’ve heard a little stir that this episode was hinting at a Blair/Dan hookup. He needs to experience new things and she’s looking for revenge…I don’t know. I just don’t see it. But, who knows. This is Gossip Girl we are talking about.

While this episode proved a little slow, it did advance the Serena/Blair cat fight a lot, which from the looks of it only gets worse next episode when they both visit Yale. Should be good! Too bad we have to wait two weeks!

PS. What happened to Nate?!?
