As you’ve no doubt noticed, things have changed quite a bit here at Inside Fights. Today is the culmination of months of discussion, planning and hard work, and it’s a pretty exciting day for our staff.
I wanted to take a few moments to fill you in on the new Inside Fights features the new relaunch brings.
- The New Look: This is the biggest obvious change. We’ve made the move to WordPress 2.7, and with that move comes a whole bunch of cool options we can offer our readers — options I’ll go into detail on below.
- New Categories: Our category system has been drastically simplified and is easier to use than ever. Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts now have their own sections, and you’ll find similar sub-sections for each in the dropdown box in the menu bar. To find what you’re looking for, simply mouse over the Boxing or Mixed Martial Arts sections in the menu bar, or click on the main category to find all posts in that section.
- Quick News: This little section will be the place to find the latest breaking news items. The cool thing about Quick News is that we can post quick news tidbits without having to take the time to write a complete post about it, which means you get the news faster. Don’t worry, though — we’ll still analyze news items in detail, but this is our way of getting you the latest stuff in quick fashion.
- Gravatars: We now offer support for Gravatars. Gravatar stands for “Globally Recognized Avatar”, and they are custom commenter images you select. They’ll display next to your comments on our posts. All you have to do is click the above link and sign up with your email address.
- Search: If you’re looking for something specific, use our handy search box at the top of the site.
- Featured Story: At the top of our main page, you’ll find our current Featured Story. This is the place where you’ll find the biggest news and other content we want to highlight. It’ll typically have a huge, high-resolution image attached to it.
- Popular/Comments/Featured/Tags: This sidebar box is pretty sweet. The Popular tab displays the most popular posts from the entire site over the past thirty days. Click the Comments box and you’ll see the latest comments from all posts. The Featured tab gives you a listing of our recent Featured Stories, and the Tags box gives you a tag cloud. In the tag cloud, the bigger the text for the tag, the more popular that tag is. So you’ll see that UFC is the biggest tag, which means it’s the most popular item posted on the site.
We’re still fixing a few issues. We have to recategorize all 1300-plus posts from our entire archive, and that’s going to take a few days. Until we finish categorizing stuff, feel free to use the Search box to find what you’re looking for.
