Funny People trailer hits the Net

Universal Pictures has debuted the first trailer for the third Judd Apatow comedy feature, Funny People. This trailer is longer than the typical two-and-a-half minute trailers, but it explores not just the comedy aspects of the film, but the dramatic qualities as well. As a guy who has examined virgins and unplanned parenthood, Apatow may have crafted his best film yet with Funny People. Already moved up a week to bow in late July, it’s quickly become one of the most anticipated films of the summer. Check out the trailer after the cut and prepare to laugh.

Funny People is Judd Apatow’s third film behind the camera and it stars long-time friend – and at one time apartment roommate – Adam Sandler, along with Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Eric Bana. It’s a more serious turn for him which could expand his fanbase or turn off some of his faithful fans. In the comedy, George Simmons (Sandler) learns of his terminal, inoperable health condition, and his desire to form a genuine friendship cause him to take a relatively green performer under his wing as his opening act.

Universal will debut Funny People in theaters on July 31, 2009.
