Live WrestleMania 25 Coverage From The Show

PPVs, Reviews, Top Story

Stay with me all night as I am here at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas for the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania. I’m going to be reporting live from the show all evening so keep with me for the newest updates.

Also, please make sure to check out Paul Marshall’s Updated Blog as he is checking it out on TV!

Alright folks it is WrestleMania time and I am here in the Press Box waiting for the show to start. I arrived at the Reliant Stadium parking lot after getting rather lost even though my initial intention was to go to Joe’s Crab Shack and meet up with the DVD Lounge guru, Travis Leamons. Too bad I suck at driving in Houston and ended up in Mania traffic, parked my car, and ended up walking on into the media entrance. As I’m checking and about to head to the elevators, I catch a glimpse of Evan Bourne heading up a hallway but can’t stop to greet him.

No need though as he gets in the elevator to head up with me and a few other members of the press for a press conference. As we stand there waiting for it to begin, I speak with him and Joey Styles for a little while and just have some casual conversation.

Pardon me for sounding stupid but I was marking out inside.

A press conference with Ric Flair, Mickey Rourke, and Ricky Steamboat goes on and I’ll give more on that later. For now it is 5:30 and things are happening inside the arena so we may be close to showtime. A long aisle way lines from the back to the ring as a giant star hangs over the entrance. Things are starting to roll now as footage from last night’s Hall Of Fame ceremony is being shown as well as past times from WWE’s past.

Word is that about an hour and a half before the show…the gate was already at $7.2 or 7.3 million. DAMN!

And the Unified Tag Team Lumberjack match has been moved to the dark match! WTF?

Todd Grisham is heading out to the ring for ECW announcing duties along with Matt Striker.

Unification Tag Team Title Lumberjack Match: Carlito/Primo Vs. Miz/Morrison

Lumberjacks: Great Khali, Cryme Tyme, Jamie Noble, Charlie Haas, Hurricane Helms, Goldust, Jimmy Wang Yang, Tommy Dreamer, Evan Bourne, R-Truth, William Regal, Paul Burchill, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, THE Brian Kendrick, Ezekiel Jackson, Mike Knox, Vladimir Kozlov

Miz and Morrison head out first to big heat and they are awesome. Carlito and Primo are on their way out next to a decent pop. The arena looks jam-packed and I find it hard to really find any large number of empty seats together.

Morrison and Primo start out first. Morrison to the outside on the apron but he holds on so as to not feel the wrath of the lumberjacks. Primo with a headstand on the ropes in the corner…NICE! Morrison to the outside and the face lumberjacks get a few shots in before sending him back in…cover by Primo for TWO! Carlito in now and backdrop by Morrison and a tag to Miz.

Carlito was having a decent showing for a minute but Miz and Morrison doubleteam for the advantage now and Carlito is your face in peril. Miz with a chinlock and the lumberjacks are getting the crowd into it. Carlito gets a few hits in but then gets caught in no man’s land again and holy hell…a double front flapjack by the Miz and Morrison. Morrison wih a huge running kick to Carlito’s chest for TWO! The crowd of over seventy thousand hates the Miz but they are trying to get Carlito back into it.

Randon note: No Bella Twins in sight.

Carlito catches Morrison and an electric chair drop sends him down. Hot tag to Primo after Miz comes in and Russian leg sweep, standing drop kick, and springboard dropkick. Primo is EN FUEGO! Nutso time as Carlito spears Miz to the outside. Primo with a flying cross body and Morrison rolls it over for two. Morrison goes for the Moonlight Drive but picks up Primo who falls down in a scorpion death drop for the pin.

Unified Tag Team Champions: Carlito and Primo Colon

Ok, Mania starts in about 5 minutes and they change the ring mat for some reason. Jim Ross comes out to a nice pop. Michael Cole gets booed almost out the building. Lawler gets a nice ovation with “JERRY JERRY JERRY” chant. The Fink runs out and Lillian welcomes the crowd.

Travis Leamons has now joined me in the press box for guest commentary as Jerry Lawler (which he called himself mind you).

The lights go down and the camera bulbs are flashing as we have a countdown from the crowd and HERE WE GO!

Opening video with superstars giving their thoughts on WrestleMania and the history. And Travis considers it to be the longest opening video ever seen. And Nicole something or another from The Pussycat Dolls is out to sing America The Beautiful.

Fireworks out the ass boom through the arena and lots of smoke. And holy hell they are bringing out ladders now…as Travis counted as the Count from Sesame Street, there are “Eleven…ELEVEN LADDERS!”

First Match: Money In The Bank: CM Punk Vs. Mark Henry Vs. MVP Vs. Finlay Vs. Shelton Benjamin Vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Christian Vs. Kane

Punk goes under the ladders on the way to the ring. Henry gets booed big time. MVP comes out to a nice pop and avoids the ladders. Finlay comes out with Hornswoggle and Finlay is wearing an odd rendition piece that looks like half of the Road Warrior’s pads. Kofi wih the BOOM BOOM BOOM! Christian out to a nice pop and wearing the shiny pants.

Travis: “Aww he stole Goldust’s wardrobe.”

Kane with the pyro and we have ladders everywhere folks. You wont’ get much on this from me unless big spots cuz it’s hard to keep up.

Teamwork and then battling it out from Kane and Mark Henry. It’s mostly the big guys versus the little guys in this match so far. Kane climbing up for the second time now. Finlay with a dropkick and then a suicide dive onto Kane and Shelton. Christian joins the flying party. MVP getting the crowd on it and a flipping dive onto everyone outside. Punk and Kofi alone in the ring…RUNNING TANDEM suicide dives! Shelton now flips off the tall ass ladder onto everyone! HOLY SHIT!

Mark Henry going up top…NO! Stopped by Finlay, Hornswoggle throws in a step ladder who uses it to stand on Henry on the turnbuckle and then dives onto everyone outside. Finlay NAILS Henry with the step ladder. Finlay now taking control on Kofi inside. Kofi swings THROUGH the ladder to kick Finlay in the face…but then gets drilled by the step ladder as he flies into the corner. Punk gets the Celtic Cross onto the step ladder. Finlay climbing SLOOOOWWW and gets spin-kicked off by Kofi.

Henry holding a ladder that Kofi RUNS UP and tries to grab the case. Henry drops the ladder, catches Kofi in mid air and world’s strongest slams him onto the ladder. DAMN! Shelton and MVP going at it in the ring. A ladder is set up as a table in the ring, Shelton springboards on it to MVP and gets powerbombed down. Punk now takes out MVP and Christian leaps on the table ladder and pulls Punk down…fighting back and forth. Punk going for a GTS…reversed into a fall-down Unprettier.

Shelton just scaled a ladder outside the table ladder inside and runs up a big one to sunset flip powerbomb MVP but almost kills himself. Instead he improvises and powerbombs MVP to the outside on top of like three people. Now Finlay and Shelton climbing…Finlay gets punched hard to the ladder. Christian on Shelton and Shelton holds his own.

Shelton and Christian on top of TWO ladders. Shelton falls to the outside and Christian rights himself with the ropes. Punk springboards to the ladder all of a sudden! Punk face first into a ladder and falls back to get his foot caught in the ladder. now Kane joins the party and stops Christian. Kane chokeslams Christian to the mat from the top of the ladder. Kane and Punk battling it out on top! Kane goes down. Punk grabs it for his second briefcase.

Winner and Mr. MITB: CM Punk

Footage from WWE Axxess.

Kid Rock’s turn to sing now. Ummm ok…the crowd was hot after the MITB match and now we get this? At least he’s singing BAWITDABA! And it’s STILL going on…good God! And now the divas are coming to the ring while Kid Rock plays!

Guess we know what’s next!

Second Match: 25-Diva Battle Royal

They get NO introductions whatsoever and start fighting before the introductions even end. Chicks are flying out all over the place here. Santino IS in there in drag. Santino is barely doing a damn thing and avoids contact at all costs. Michelle and Mickie just take a huge fall to the floor.

Final three are Melina, Beth, and Santino! Santino helps eliminate Beth and Melina and wins MISS WRESTLEMANIA!

Winner and Miss WrestleMania: Santino Marella

They bring in the crown and he calls himself “Santina. Santino Marella’s twin sister from Italy!” BWAHAHAHAHAHA! He receives his…she receives her crown and sash and is crying. Beth is pissed. Santina is dancing her ass off.

The Legends/Jericho match is up next! We get a video package of the feud including clips from ,i>The Wrestler, CNN interviews, and different episodes of Raw.

Third Match: Handicap Elimination Match: Chris Jericho Vs. The Legends

Mickey Rourke is at ringside. Jericho is out first and the crowd can’t stop him. Steamboat comes out first for the legends. Snuka out second and joins Steamboat on the ramp. Now Piper comes out to a huge pop. Flair out last to join his fellow legends and the crowd is eating this up.

The Legends argue to start on who will be in the ring first and Piper wins by taking down Jericho. Piper tried a dropkick and got ONE leg up. Snuka now in with a headbutt. Steamboat to the top and a thrown down chop to Jericho’s head. Arm drags into an arm bar. Steamboat looks to be in great shape. Double chop from Snuka and Steamboat.

Snuka in the Walls and he’s gone! That was quick. Steamboat gets thrown out and Piper in with Jericho now. Jericho up in the corner and kicked by Piper. Stooges’ eyepoke and a sleeper. Enziguri to Piper from Jericho and Piper is gone. Steamboat with a HALF RING flying body press for a close TWO! Steamboat now down and getting drilled by Jericho. Flair is pissed. Steamboat back with a shoulder block and FLAIR GETS NAILED! Steamboat back body drops Jericho to the floor hard and flies up and over onto him.

Another off the top rope chop to Jericho’s head. Roll-up for TWO!!! Dammitt! Jericho back on the offensive! Bulldog to Steamboat and lionsault MISSES! Steamboat is kicked down and then hits a powerslam out of nowhere for another close two. Jericho gets the walls and it’s reversed into a small package for another TWO! Steamboat flips out of a suplex and gets hit with a codebreaker out of nowhere.

Winner: Chris Jericho

This was AWESOME…well the Steamboat/Jericho part was. Flair in and he’s going nuts on Jericho. Chops and dancing and Flair is bodydropped hard. CODEBREAKER…hard too! The crowd is extremely pissed. Jericho is searching for Rourke and grabs a mic. Jericho says he is the best and did exactly what he said he would do. He wants Rourke in the ring and an apology. Rourke heading to the ring.

The Ram takes off his outer shirt and is entering the ring. Climbing the steps. He’s in the ring now and throwing air punches…Jericho is waiting his time. Rourke throws punches at Jericho and misses and Jericho is freaked out! Awesome. Body punch from Rourke misses and a headshot to the back of Jericho’s head takes him down. Flair raises Rourke’s hand and the crowd goes nuts! WOOOOO!

Hardys up next and we get another cool video package. Extreme Rules people!

Fourth Match: Extreme Rules – Matt Hardy Vs. Jeff Hardy

Justin Roberts actually gets to announce something. Matt is out and holy hell, good heat. Matt is in tights which is just odd. Chubbykins is out next to a giant girl squealing pop. Jeff is all painted up like a skull or something. Trash talking to start. Slap to Matt and Jeff on the offensive. Jeff gets a framed portrait??? And he naisl Matt with it. Flying body off the steps to Matt and ow! Jeff brings in a chair and sets it up next to Matt in the corner…flying body and misses.

Whisper in the wind and HOLY SHIT…Matt nails him with a chair on the way down. Matt nails Jeff with a shopvac? Why is this shit under the ring? Side Effect on the chair for TWO! And now we get the table from Matt! Suplex in the corner onto the table outside? NO! Punches back and forth and Jeff runs for a flying clothesline off the apron to the outside. Jeff brings out a kendo stick, crutch, and garbage can. garbage can on Matt’s head and a crutch shot…Jeff kicks Matt in the corner in the garbage can for TWO!

Swanton misses! Twist Of Fate from Matt and KICK OUT! Matt to the top and Jeff stops him! Superplex onto Matt!!! Chairshot to Matt’s head and he rolls outside. Matt gets rolled onto the table and gets another chairshot for the hell of it. Jeff goes back under the ring for ANOTHER TABLE? A chair is laid on Matt and now another table is set up over Matt! Jeff up top! Jeff BELLYFLOPS ONTO MATT!!!

Two count…Matt gets a foot on the rope. Extreme Rules much? Jeff searching under the ring again and pulls out every ladder imaginable. I think Matt is dead. Jeff runs and hops off a chair and legdrop to Matt. Jeff sets up a HUGE ladder! Now a shorter one next to it. Jeff climbs up the short one…holds onto the big one and leap frog…OH MY GOD!!!!! Jeff misses and his spine has got to be in his mouth right now!

HOL-EE SHIT! Matt puts Jeff’s head in a chair and gives a Twist Of Fate for the three. How Jeff has a larynx is beyond me.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Orton and the Legacy in the locker room all quiet and foreboding.

Fifth Match: Intercontinental Title – JBL Vs. Rey Mysterio

JBL gets a mic and is so damn “My shit don’t stink” happy! He just pissed the crowd off beyond belief and gives an awesome promo on Texas not having any champions, Texans not having a job, and that he is a hero Texas can be proud of. Rey comes out dressed as the Joker and a fellow media guy goes, “Too Soon?”

And Lillian gives the boxing introductions waiting for both men to get into the ring. JBL gets a big boot in but the match hadn’t started yet. Bell rings and yes…match is OVER! Rey gets all the offense in and wins the title with a 619 and splash!

Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Rey Mysterio

WTF? JBL now has a mic and can’t believe what just happened. He has something to say and the crowd is pissing all over him.

JBL: “I QUIT!”

He drops the mic as the crowd cheers. He’s looking out at the crowd and the people are still applauding it. He is walking out and I think this may be it. JBL is yelling at the crowd as only he can and that seems to be it.

Sixth Match: Shawn Michaels Vs. Undertaker

Video package! Chances are that Undertaker’s entrance will last at least ten times longer then JBL’s match!

Shawn is in the white version of Taker’s outfit and coming down on a “floating” podium and comes down to choir music as white smoke fills the area. Nice entrance! Sparklers flare and now OHHHH SHAWWNNN! He’s in white and golden chaps and makes his way to the ring.

GONG!!! Undertaker rising from the entrance ramp. Shawn came from Heaven and Taker from hell! Taker raises his arms and flames shoot out from every place on the set. Fink announces him and the crowd pops huge. A lot less fanfare this year for his entrance then in recent years, but it still took longer for him to get to the ring then it did for JBL to lose.

Travis: “Undertaker, I loved you in Suburban Commando.”

Back and forth they go and Taker CATCHES an HBK punch. HBK in the corner, DX chop, leap over Taker, and playing possum on a busted knee but Taker isn’t buying it. The Dead Man now has the advantage in the corner but HBK switches it up and then gets sent to the corner for a flip. Back body drop and HBK lands hard.

The crowd is loving this already!

Gorilla press slam by Taker onto HBK. Old school as Taker goes up…and DOWN for the big hit to HBK who crumbles in a heap. Taker into the corner and MISSES A KNEE! Shawn now goes after Taker’s knee and starts with a knee breaker and kicking him down. HBK going for a sharpshooter…NO a figure four!

Taker gets out and HBK plants him down with a dropkick to the knee. The crowd seems to be throwing a few boos toward Michaels. Taker lifts him up and slams him into the corner. Clothesline into the corner and snake eyes to HBK. Big boot to HBK and then a leg drop? Hogan much? Two count…TWO! Taker has his hand up for a chokeslam and this is not ending yet…NO NO…HBK gets the Crippler Crossface on Undertaker. Taker rolls him over for a two count…TWO!

Travis: “Is HBK going to break out the sharpshooter next?”

Taker is lifting up out of it and sidewalk slam for TWO! Against the ropes and Taker down for a body drop but HBK kicks him and Taker just stare shim down. Chops from HBK and flying elbow. Kip up from HBK and atomic drop to Taker and big chop. ANOTHER atomic drop and another drop. Flying clothesline takes down the big man. HBK up top…ZOMBIE SIT UP. HBK jumps and gets caught in the chokeslam but he gets out and goes for the superkick but Taker falls from it and HBK going for the sharpshooter. NO…Taker has him in the triangle choke and somehow HBK kicks his feet to the ropes for the break. Holy crap that was fun!

To the outside and slam to the stairs. HBK laying on the apron with his head out. Taker boots him to the head and now on the apron annnnnnddd leg drop but MISSES and slams his ass on the apron. Baseball slide from HBK to Taker’s face and he’s down on the outside. HBK to the top rope and moonsault but NO…Taker just brushes him to the side and HBK slams to the ground. My God!

Taker rolls in the ring and zombie sit up. Shawn holding the ref by the head and Taker runs and dives over the top rope but Shawn grabs a camera man and pulls him into the path and TAKER LANDS ON HIS HEAD! Holy shit he has to have brain damage.

The replay shows that Taker pretty much went upside-down and landed straight on the top of his head. That was worse then Lesnar breaking his damn head years ago. Everyone is down but HBK is wandering around. Another ref runs down and Shawn is pulling the first ref into the ring and wants him to count Taker out. Taker is STILL down and looks to be dead. HBK is waking up the ref and wants him to start the 10-count. The crowd is pissed at HBk for wanting to win this way. SOMEHOW Taker is now up and oh he’s back down. Ref’s count is at eight…nine…and he rolls in at the last possible second.

Sweet Chin Music being warmed up…Taker is up annnnddd Taker catches him in a chokeslam. Slowest…count…EVER for TWO! Picking up HBK for a tombstone, reversal, sweet chin music caught…chokeslam and NO, now Shawn hits it and he is crawling over for it.

ONE…TWO……………..KICK OUT!

Kip up again by HBK and he is struggling to walk. Taker still down…HBK leans over and gets caught in Taker’s hand. Kick and LAST RIDE to sunset flip…Taker picks him up again and DOWN! OH MY GOD…TWO COUNT!

Taker is heading to the top rope?? HBK still down. Flying ELBOW and it misses! OOOOOO YEAH!

Travis: “That was for you Macho!”

Shawn runs, Taker tosses him, skin the cat…NO Taker grabs him over the top rope and TOMBSTONE. One…TWO…NOOOOOOOOOOO! Taker’s face is priceless! Holy Shit I did NOT see that coming!

Taker pulls down the straps of his tights and pulls up what looks to be a dead HBK. Another tombstone…and it’s REVERSED INTO A DDT BY SHAWN!

HBK crawling to the outside and trying to make it to the top rope. Taker is still dead and HBK drops the elbow which connects. HBK crawling over but no he wants to stand up. Warming up the band…and he DRILLS IT! Crawling for the cover…one…TWO…KICK OUT AGAIN!

Both men crawling around…this is insane, what more can they do? Big chop by HBK with a return punch from Taker…and AGAIN! Again! Chop…Punch…Chop…Punch! BIG BOOT by Taker. tombstone countered by elbows and a chop from HBK. Taker against the ropes and sends HBK into the corner. Running clothesline but HBK gets the boot up. Shawn climbing up top again…backwards…moonsault CAUGHT…TOMBSTONE!

One…TWO…THREE! And the streak is intact at 17-0! That was just an incredibly awesome match and the last ten minutes was frickin phenomenal.

Winner: Undertaker

Taker is just sitting there in the ring staring at HBK laying there. HBK rolls out and Taker stands up to a huge standing ovation. He kneels down as the purple light fills the arena and 17-0 shows on the screens around the ring. Taker raises his hand to the sky as the smoke rolls down the aisle. What a fantastic match!

Seventh Match: Seventh Match: World Heavyweight Title Triple Threat Match: Edge Vs. John Cena vs. Big Show

Video package.

Vicki Guerrero heads out to the ring in a wheelchair pushed by Chavo. And here comes Edge first with multi-colored pyro. We’re headed for the boxing introductions again. Show comes out next and random note but a dude outside in line before the event was dressed in the singlet, shaven head, and had a small plastic world heavyweight title. No shit. Show gets the in-ring pyro treatment. BOOS start already before Cena’s music even hits. And holy hell…about 100 Cena clones line the aisle! People…they hate one of them, why bring out more? And they came out to Cena’s old music, THUGONAMICS!

Travis: “Will the real John Cena please stand up?”

Pyro hits and Cena runs through the line of Cenas all doing the “You Can’t See Me” pose but now they run to the back. That was stupid…I’m sorry but it was.

Show at 447 pounds. Mix of boos and cheers. Cena next is introduced and the kids and women squeal as the men booooooo! Edge gets no good reaction. They each take a corner as the belt is up and here we go!

Everyone hitting everyone to start. Cena nails Edge with a flying shoulderblock and then tries it on Show and gets THROWN DOWN! HA! Edge gets picked up by Show and crotched on the top rope. Cena lays in the corner. Edge thrown into Cena who picks him up for an F-U (the other name takes too long to type) but Show kicks Cena down. Edge outside and Show stands on Cena’s chest and is punching Cena in the corner. Chavo just keeps wheeling Vicki around the ring. Show then gets crotched and dumped by Cena.

Edge pulling stairs over by Show now??? Running and…on the stairs and jumps and SPEARS SHOW THROUGH THE BARRICADE! Edge up and goes grabs Cena since he couldn’t drag Show’s big ass into the ring. Cover on Cena by Edge for TWO!!! Edge in the corner for the spear…and NO, countered into an STF by Cena. Cena reaching for the ropes but Cena drags him back and actually CLOSER to the ropes. Show up and reaches through to grab Cena by the throat and nails him with a punch.

Show up top and a MISSED Vader Bomb on Edge. Cena back in and running around like a girl. Trying to suplex Show…Edge comes to help and double suplex on Show. Edge and Cena stare each other down as if to say, “Thank you but I still hate you!” They double clothesline Show over the top rope and Edge kicks him in the face. Cena now with the advantage again. Now Cena goes up top…Show pushes him off and Edge SPEARS HIM! Two count as Show pulls Edge out and BIG slap to Edge’s chest.

Eighth Match: WWE Championship Match – Triple H Vs. Randy Orton

Video package time and they have been awesome all night.

Trips is walking in the back and he meets up with his brother and father, Shane and Vince but they just give him a friendly nod. Time for the entrances and we are reminded that Trips can’t be DQed or counted out or he loses the title. Orton is walking out slowly as hell…and I miss his old theme music, HEY!

Trips’ music and the crowd goes nuts. He stands on the light and throws a sledgehammer through a plate glass window…pretty cool. And now the spittake.

Orton gets his introduction first from Lillian and a mixture of cheers and boos. Triple H next and good ovation. bell sounds and we get the staredown. Spear takedown by Trips to start and he is just punishing Orton. AND HOLY SHIT AN RKO OUT OF NOWHERE! We haven’t even been in this a minute!

Orton lands on his feet and FINALLY they are going after the Spanish Announce Table. Trips cleaning it off and has a TV in his hands but can’t be DQed so he drops it. Ok, now they clean off the other announce table and setting up for the pedigree. Annndd Orton flips Trips and the TABLE DOESN’T BREAK! Fuckin’ OOOWWWW!

Rather anti-climatic ending as stated by Travis and myself.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is it for our live coverage from WrestleMania 25 and I hope you enjoyed our live coverage as HOLY HELL…fireworks scared me! Lots of smoke and Trips is posing over Orton.

Have a good night and I need sleep!
