The Office – Episode 5-22 Review

Shows, Top Story

This weeks episode “Heavy Competition” has Dwight and Michael pitted against each other for the first time. Meanwhile, Andy expresses concerns to Jim that Pam does not truly love him.

It is revealed that Dwight has been feeding Michael information in the last few weeks that The Michael Scott Paper Company has been open. A conflict arises when Charles tells Dwight he’s ready to give him more responsibility. Dwight confesses to Charles about his meetings with Michael, who subsequently threatens Michael to stop pestering his salesman.

“Michael, I want you to leave Dunder Mifflin alone. Do you understand?”
“I understand nothing.”

In retaliation, Michael attempts to steal Dwights biggest client, who considers leaving Dunder Mifflin after hearing out Michael’s offer. Luring Michael, Pam and Ryan out of their office, Dwight breaks in and steals their office supplies and Michael’s key to successful client relationships: his rolodex.

Jim pretends to fall into a depression when he gets fed up with Andy’s implications that his relationship with Pam is doomed to fail. He reveals later that he was only messing with Andy, telling him that he and Pam are nothing like Andy and Angela. Andy considers if he is over Angela or not.

As Dwight uses the notes in Michael’s rolodex to feign interest in clients, Michael goes directly to Mr. Schofield, Dwight’s biggest client, and has Dwight listen via cell phone while he buys him over. Dwight drives over to the office in an attempt to steal Schofield back, but fails when he mentions Schofield’s gay son, courtesy of a note scribbled on a rolodex card.
