In a truly shocking result, the darkhorse, Kris Allen managed to defeat the heavily favored Adam Lambert to become the latest American Idol on Tuesday night.
Glam rocker Adam Lambert clearly suffered from people assuming he would win and not voting in droves, while the underdog from Conway, Arkansas benefitted from being the perennial underdog on the series. 100 million votes were cast to determine the victor and the numbers have never been higher.
The last episode featured many other surprises including the finalists performing with legends Keith Urban and Kiss respectively (you can figure out which performed with which) and new judge Kara Dioguardi making peace and performing a duet with newly-implanted ‘Bikini Girl,’ Katrina Darrell. Dioguardi also stripped down to her own swimsuit in a dare prompted by money for charity.
Allen will now release his single “No Boundaries” while Lambert is expected to rival Daughtry in terms of post Idol success.
