Pulse Wrestling’s RoH on HDNet report, 6-7-09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

This episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet has been hyped for weeks because the main event is a Four Corner Survival match for the Ring of Honor World Championship match. Will the show, and more importantly the match live up to the hype? Read on to find out…

Claudio Castagnoli and “Dirty” Ernie Osiris w/ Prince Nana vs. Colt Cabana and Brent Albright

This is “Classic” Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana RoH on HDNet debut and he has brand new music. “Dirty” Ernie starts things off and gets beaten while Claudio is reluctant to get in the ring against his rival, Brent Albright. This is your basic formula tag team match, but it is fun and inventive thanks to Cabana, and very European thanks to Claudio. Cabana gets the win for his team with the Billy Goat’s Curse inverted Boston Crab. A fun way to start the show. Kyle Durden tries to interview the victors and gets a faceful of Osiris’ stank shoe for his troubles.

Winners: Colt Cabana and Brent Albright via submission

We get replays of the backstage interviews from all four competitors in the main event.

Bobby Dempsey vs. Sal Rinauro

It is a real shame that Rinauro is getting fed to Dempsey. Rinauro is better than that.

Winner: Bobby Dempsey via pinfall.

Hog and Prazak do a “via satellite” interview with now former RoH ambassador Ric Flair. The Nature Boy gives some insight on how to prepare for a title match.

Four Corner Survival Ring of Honor World Title Match: Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black vs. “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson vs. Jerry Lynn ©

Dragon and Tyler Black get huge babyface reactions. Austin Aries gets a huge heel response, and surprisingly the Champ gets a decidedly mixed response leaning towards the heel side of things. They do some pairing off with one group in the ring and others on the outside. This allows Danielson to run a submission clinic on the champ. The match settles down into what you would expect from a four corner survival. They keep the action fast and furious (Tokyo Drift). It is Austin Aries who gets the first prolonged lead. He gets cocky, though, and pays the price. The goes inside and outside the ring with crazy dives, huge moves, and close near falls. Really this is everything you expect out of Ring of Honor. The competitors use the fact that all four men are in the ring to their advantage instead of just pairing up. Jerry Lynn gets the win after catching Danielson while flipping into Cattle Mutilation into the Cradle Piledriver. This was an awesome match with a cool inventive finish.

Winner: Jerry Lynn via pinfall.

Big Andy Mac’s Big Andy Final Thoughts: This was a one match show almost literally, but that one match was awesome. There really isn’t much else to say.

I’ll see you next time…
