2010 MLB Baseball Free Agent Class: Part 2

Top Story

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be looking at the 2010 free agent class by team. I’ll list all of the free agents along with their Free Agent Status (A/B).

Next is…
AL Central

Chicago White Sox
Ramon Castro
Bartolo Colon
Octavio Dotel – A
Jermaine Dye – A (Option)
Freddy Garcia
Mark Kotsay
Scott Podsednik

Max Potential Picks Added: 4

First off, Dye’s option will be declined. I also don’t see them offering arbitration to him or Dotel, as they are limited on free payroll and don’t want to chance one of them accepting it. Garcia, Podsednik, and Kotsay all have expressed interest in staying in Chicago; only Garcia seems like a good bet, based off the White Sox OF situation.

Cleveland Indians
Jamey Carroll

Max Potential Picks Added: 0

He’s a goner. They have a lot to do even though they aren’t losing much.

Detroit Tigers
Adam Everett
Aubrey Huff – B
Brandon Lyon – B
Placido Polanco – A
Fernando Rodney – B
Jarrod Washburn

Max Potential Picks Added: 5

The main player they need to bring back is Polanco; they have no middle infield depth and he’s still a solid player. I also don’t think another team would sign his as a type A free agent. Rodney may be offered arbitration, but I don’t see Lyon sticking around or getting the arbitration offer. Huff may get an arbitration offer, but he’ll most likely decline it. Everett and Washburn won’t be back. Everett is still proving his glove is the reason he’s still around and there are better options. Washburn is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of Detroit’s front office and fans; I’d be shocked if they wanted him back.

Kansas City Royals
Coco Crisp (Option)
Miguel Olivo – B (Option)
Jamey Wright

Max Potential Picks Added: 1

Olivo will probably be back on the option; he’s made a decent tandem with John Buck (although Buck could be non-tendered). I have no clue if Crisp’s option will be picked up; he’s missed most of the year with an injury, so he may not be worth the risk. Wright will probably move on to the next minor league deal that comes his way.

Minnesota Twins
Orlando Cabrera – A
Joe Crede
Ron Mahay
Carl Pavano – B
Mike Redmond

Max Potential Picks Added: 3

Cabrera has said he’d like to go back to Oakland, but if he’s going to cost a first rounder, Oakland – and most other teams – may wait it out again. Pavano is a decent risk to offer arbitration to; he’s decent and his raise would probably be something that cash-conscience Minnesota could afford to absorb. Crede and Mahay will not be back, and Redmond, who’s been Joe Mauers back up for years will probably be done with the Twins with Jose Morales on the roster.
