Benjamin Bratt To Return To Law & Order

Law & Order will welcome an old friend back into the 27th Precinct later this season.

Benjamin Bratt, who played Detective Rey Curtis on the NBC series from 1995-99, will reprise his role in an episode set for later this season, NBC says. The episode will feature him reuniting with his former boss, Lt. Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson).

“I am thrilled that Ben is coming back for a return appearance,” Law & Order creator Dick Wolf says. “He joined us for our recent 20th anniversary celebration and it was like he never left.”

The Law & Order appearance will be the second big guest spot for Bratt this season. He’s also set to appear on ABC’s Modern Family as Gloria’s (Sofia Vergara) ex-husband.

Bratt played Curtis for seasons six through nine of L&O. The character was written out at the end of the 1998-99 season when he took early retirement to care for his wife, who had multiple sclerosis. Bratt earned an Emmy nomination for the role that year.

NBC hasn’t set an airdate for the episode yet.

More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
