FlashForward Episode 01-16

Here’s the story.  If you’re looking for theories about the mysteries of FlashForward, I am so not your girl.  After all, right up until Dem and Mark picked Marcy out as the mole, and Janis confessed her double-mole status to Simon, I was convinced it was Vreede.  Admittedly, it probably still could be.  After all, who’s to say that the guy who was supposedly in the building during Mark’s big scene and who has managed to be just on the edge of most of the major mole-related escapades so far isn’t a third mole?  So, I guess until it’s proven otherwise, I’m sticking to my theory.

Two years before the blackout, it’s Al, Dem, Marcy, and Janis’ first day on the job as FBI Special Agents.  Mark’s giving them the standard “welcome to the store, your first day won’t be your defining day” lecture.   Aw, Al, I’ve missed you.  They get their partner assignments.  Dem gets Vreede, and Al gets Benford.  Dem asks for a switch.  Mark’s a legend, and he could learn a lot.  Al agrees, provided that Stan does as well.  Janis gets analysis (no partner), and Marcy is under her.  Al reminds them that they’re “Booze and Bullets,” the name of their little foursome since Quantico.  Marcy’s not thrilled with her assignment and wonders if she’s the mascot of the group. Janis thinks Marcy’ll outpace all of them.  And with that, the two moles, the dead guy, and the soon-to-be dead guy start their FBI careers.

Present day, Mark and Dem sit down with Marcy on the hot seat.  It’s March 12, three days before Demetri is supposed to be killed.  They need the answers, but she claims to not know anything.  Dem isn’t the best person to be doing this, so Mark pulls Janis in for the interview instead.  She tells them about the dead drop’s she’s been doing.  They don’t know her at all.  After all, neither of them ever asked about her FF.  It turns out she was incarcerated, and she was happier about it than she had been in years.  She actually felt important for the first time.

Stan pulls Mark out of the interview room to meet with a Vulcan and a male agent from Washington. They steal Marcy back to DC, so Stan puts the team back to work on finding Dyson Frost.  Dem announces that the gun has surfaced.  It was used in a murder the night before.

Mark and Dem head to the shelter where the victim was killed.  Dem walks them through the  crime, but the eyewitness descriptions aren’t that great.  The car is more promising, it was a 1970s era sedan.  They guys figure out that Marcy was in the evidence room. It’s possible that she stole the gun.  They track her down at the airport, about to get on the plane and demand to know who she gave the gun to.  She claims to not know what they’re talking about.  She only knows that Dem is supposed to die in LA in three days.  She’s sorry, but there’s nothing she can do.  Well, he COULD leave LA.

Liv and Charlie head to the park and meet up with Dylan and Lloyd.   The adults don’t know they were supposed to meet, but the kids insisted.  Charlie and Dylan bump heads, and Lloyd helps Liv take a look at her daughter’s mouth.

Stan meets with the Vice President.  She’s pleasant enough, which is suprising because I thought she hated him.  Oh, wait, she’s not.  She wants to know why Mark’s looking into Jericho.  She also knows that the Jericho CEO increased security around his house.  She wants Stan to look into it.  They’re up to something that’ll threaten national security and the President’s position in the White House.  Stan hesitates but the VP tells him that the visions are coming true (except, they’re kind of NOT), and even though he and the President go back 25 years, the Prez is going down.  Does Stan want to be out with the old or in with the new?

Back at the office, Stan wants to know why Mark looked into Jericho on the FBI database.  He spins the story about Aaron and Tracy’s “death.”  Stan wonders if it’s all right if he talk to him.  He gives him Aaron’s name but warns that A’s off the grid and Mark doesn’t know how to get a hold of him.  Dem rushes into Mark’s office and announces that the LAPD is chasing a Disco-Era sedan that matches the car from the murder.  Dem and Mark rush into the hostage situation.  The hostage-taker is disappointed that Dem showed up; he wanted to talk to the Macho Man Randy Savage.  Dem starts stripping off his weaponry in exchange for the hostage.  The hostage-taker (Russ) is not amused.  He thinks that the salesgirl he’s holding hostage caused the blackout.  He thinks that it has to do with cell phones.  Dem tells him that the three of them are all scared of dying.  They all are.  Russ has made some bad decisions today, but if he gives Dem the gun, he’ll have made a good one.  Russ tosses his hostage aside, and both Mark and Dem take shots. Turns out Dem didn’t completely strip off his arsenal.

The gun that Russ was carrying is not the gun that was to be used to kill him in three days.  They’re not thrilled, but the hostage is safe and Russ is in the hospital.  Dem wanted to get to him to ask why.  He wants to be the type of person who does the right thing, like in Mark’s speech, but he’s been having trouble since blackout day.  He needs help; Mark doesn’t think he’s the right person to help.  He advises Dem to take Zoey and leave town for a few days.  Dem doesn’t want to run away.  He’s not; he’s being smart.

Two years before the blackout, Dem’s testifying at a trial.  Zoey’s the defense attorney.  They spar about the handwritten notes Dem’s taken.  She beats him down at trial, but offers to take him to dinner to make it up.  He tells her that there’s not a chance in hell he’d ever go out with her.

Back in the present, Dem tells the girl he’d never go out with that he wasn’t supposed to be at the courthouse that day. Because he’d switched with Al, he was on the bust that led to the trial where he met Zoey.  A series of small decisions played into that.  He wants to marry Zoey.  Tomorrow.  In Hawaii.  They’ll stay through the fifteenth, maybe not ever come home.

Liv arrives at Lloyd’s house randomly.  She thanks him for his help in the park, and he invites her in. She wants to leave quickly, but Lloyd points out that he has a phone.  She could have called, but she didn’t.  Why is she there?  She tells him the whole story between  her and Mark, and all the mistakes she’s made about them.  He made mistakes with Linda as well, using Dylan’s autism as an excuse.  He compares himself to Lancelot, trying to make the case for Arthur in Guinevere’s eyes.  What will happen between them on April 29 isn’t an accident.  She’s scared; he kisses her.

Aaron walks into his hotel room to find Stan sitting there.  Stan found him through a computer search and a review of the cash-only hotels.  Stan wants to know why Aaron’s been searching, and there are some powerful people who want Jericho to go down.  Aaron’s going to Afghanistan, but his plan is flawed.  Stan agrees to help Aaron get to Tracy if he thinks she’ll tell the FBI the whole story.  Stan ends up getting Aaron NSA clearance, weapons, a cover story, and an internet phone for the trip.  He’s to document everything Tracy knows and upload it ASAP.  When he’s done, he needs to get to a base, and Stan will get a military transport back for him.  Stan doesn’t know if he’s coming back, but Aaron’s determined.

Vreede, Janis and Demetri, and Mark are at the bar.  Vreede offers to officiate at the wedding since he’s an Internet Minister.  Dem’s drunk and huggy.  Janis pours him into a cab.  She tells him that everyone needs a successful exit strategy.  Running away is his.  Dem brings up the night in Somalia, but Janis doesn’t want to talk about it.  She tells him that she’s pregnant, and he hops out of the cab.  Did they sleep together after all??????

Dem and Zoey look at a church.  It’s beautiful, but the priest won’t marry them because they didn’t do any premarital counseling.  Dem looks concerned.  He must’ve been too drunk to remember that Vreede offered to do it.  They’re also being watched.  I’m pretty sure by Dyson Frost himself.

At the office, Stan tells Mark that he couldn’t find Aaron.  Vreede runs in and shows them a videotape of Frost getting into the Disco Sedan.  Mark realizes that there’s a method to the madness.

Dem’s getting dressed for the wedding, singing “Islands in the Stream.”  He’s knocked out by Dyson Frost.  At the church, everyone’s waiting for him, but he’s not picking up his cell.  At least his mom’s there.  Mark tries and can’t get him to pick up either.  Zoey wants to know where her fiancé is.  He’s in the backseat of the Disco Sedan.  Frost leaves it parked at the same carnival that Liv and Charlie are at.  Liv is working the Wheel of Fortune.  Mark calls to tell her that Dem’s missing.  Mark doesn’t know, but he’s hoping that it’s cold feet. It’s almost March 15, and it’s a little too close for comfort  Mark asks her to kiss Charlie for him, but she can’t find her.  Dyson Frost finds her, though.  He approaches the little girl with a “hello Charlie.”
