Jason Aaron to Launch New Wolverine Book for Marvel

News

According to Newsarama, Jason Aaron will be re-launching Wolverine for the Heroic Age. This new ongoing will debut in September where Jason Aaron will take the title character to hell- the same as he did the title character of his last major Marvel on going, Ghost Rider. With news of this book comes news that Wolverine’s son Daken who had inherited the core title and made it Dark Wolverine will get his own book. Aaron’s Wolverine: Weapon X will be transitioning to this new series and the writer will author the new Astonishing Wolverine and Spider-Man title.

I think this is all pretty excellent news. Daken got a big push and now we get to see if he did well enough to carry his own book, while Weapon X has been the best Wolverine stories in continuity in years. Getting the main title is a just reward for Aaron. Particularly of interest is Aaron taking Wolverine to hell, which was a clear highlight of his Ghost Rider Arc. With this following, hopefully he won’t revisit the same themes too often, but once is hardly pushing things beyond the breaking point. Wolverine and Spider-Man’s book, however, might be a bit too much of each character. At least the accomplished Aaron is writing it, but with both still in New Avengers, it’s hard to imagine there’s too much demand. Of course, the market will seemingly sustain any number of books with names this big, so time will tell.
