Baseball Recap for 04/21/2010

Ace in the Pen
The Cubs have announced that one-time ace Carlos Zambrano is moving to the bullpen on Friday, when Ted Lilly comes off the DL. He’ll be the highest paid set up man in baseball at $17.875MM this season. Big Z is currently 1-2 with 7.45 ERA.

Expos Part 2
The sale of the Rangers has hit a snag, and current owner Tom Hicks is caught in the middle. The sale has slowed down because the Lender believes the team is worth less than the prespective owners and Major League Baseball. MLB has taken control of the sale process.

Ellis injured; no one surprised
One day after he said he was ready to play, Mark Ellis was placed on the DL for a strained left hamstring. He missed 7 games previously and thought he was ready to play, until his first at bat caused the hammy to bother him again. Ellis has a history of missing time, so this really shouldn’t surprise anyone. I’d like to dub him Eric Chavez Jr.

Morgan re-joins Reds; will still make stupid comments for ESPN
Hall of Famer Joe Morgan will re-join the Reds as a special adviser to the team; his role will be working with community outreach and diversity programs. This will not impact his work on ESPN, where he annoys many baseball fans. I really wish this job would have taken him off the air, but we couldn’t be so lucky.

Lee may be back soon
Fresh off a ruling that removed his suspension, Cliff Lee is in line to make his first start for the Mariners next Friday, if all goes well in rehab. Lee, who was dealt from the Phillies, was facing a small suspension stemming from Spring Training; the suspension was revoked last week. Lee is scheduled to start for Triple A Tacoma Sunday; he’ll be on normal rest for his season debut.
