These two tell the story of how evenly matched they are, with Rob mostly a step ahead but having trouble finishing the match due to how good AJ is. They spend much of the match trading awesome flying and stiff moves. AJ broke out a lot of his cool X-Division stuff like the torture rack powerbomb. Eventually Flair tries to interfere, but is stopped by Jay Lethal who puts him in a figure-four. As we head back to the ring, Rob Van Dam drops AJ from the top rope into his face, hits the five star frog splash and RVD retains the title.
