10 Thoughts on WWE Raw 07.05.2010 w/ Nexus Fallout, Cena’s Army, Miz’s Ascension to Awesomeness

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Here we go again folks! Monday Night Raw, the longest running episodic television drama in the history of mankind (not Mick Foley) is back for another week and that means another edition of 10 Thoughts with your’s truly, Will Pruett (aka The People’s Columnist). Make sure to check out my blog, itswilltime.wordpress.com where I’m currently discussing who I consider the contenders to replace R-Truth in Raw’s the Money in the Bank match and discuss the Chris Jericho and Edge interaction in more detail than I’ll cover below.

1. I love the confidence in The Nexus group saying that their attacks were all part of the bigger plan. It is a great tease and it makes Wade Barrett and company seem both tough and mysterious.

2. The “Stone Cold” teases from the Mystery General Manager are really fun. I don’t ink for a second that we will actually see Austin, but if these continue (or if the Mystery GM continues to tease other classic superstars) we could be in for a fun month of Michael Cole reading from a laptop.

3. Maybe John Morrison should just give his coat to Maryse. Didn’t there used to be a guy that took entrance attire to the back. Was he a victim of the recession?

4. Thank God there was no further heelishness from Rajin Singh. I don’t need to see a WWE writer who isn’t a McMahon in any story-lines.

5. Arn Anderson and Jerry Lawler’s promos tonight showed why The Nexus angle is getting over and succeeding in a very different way. They are being treated like something different than the norm by everyone. If WCW’s wrestlers had been treated the same way that The Nexus wrestlers have been, that invasion would have been 20 times better.

6. Tonight, The Miz showed something that will do him a great deal of good. He showed that he can be a legitimate threat. He has been treated as a comedy character on occasion and he moved beyond that tonight. This really could have been his moment. He could ascend to the top of Raw, with this attitude.

7. Edge’s comment about R-Truth only knowing one song was the line of the night. I would be that when Truth eventually returns from his injury, he will do so with another, equally terrible, song (for more on the Edge-Jericho interaction, check out itswilltime.wordpress.com).

8. Evan Bourne being in the ring with Jericho, Edge and Orton really made him look like a star. Between his current push and Mysterio’s title win, I am beginning to think that the high flying style is on it’s way to being a serious threat in WWE.

9. Silly Cena almost made an appearance on the closing segment before being replaced by the much more satisfying intense John Cena. His assault on Darren Young and subsequent statement that there are now only 6 Nexus members reminded me of Steve Austin hunting the Corporation member by member all in one night. Perhaps we will see something similar next week.

10. I like that not all of Raw is back Cena up in his quest to vanquish The Nexus. It almost creates three groups of wrestlers on Raw, with Cena’s army, the baddies and The Nexus which provides a nice storyline as the summer marches on. I’d pick this story over McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania any day.

Tonight’s show was a really fun one. There was just enough advancement of The Nexus story, without giving too much away for free. The same goes for the Mystery GM (or the Macbook Pro that is now running Raw) story. I’ve got more to say on my blog, itswilltime.wordpress.com and I’ll be back on Thursday for an action packed People’s Column.

Will is a 23 year old graduate student at UC Irvine. He is going to school for Stage Management and has always been passionate about pro wrestling. He began writing "The People's Column" in 2009.
