Universal Studios has unveiled the trailer and poster for the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan-produced supernatural thriller Devil. The film comes from a story by Shyamalan and is directed by John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine). Chris Messina, Geoffrey Arend, Logan Marshall-Green, Bojana Novakovic, Jenny O’Hara, Bokeem Woodbine and Jacob Vargas star.
Arriving in theaters September 17, the film promises some good old fashioned Shyamalan twists and turns as a group of strangers become trapped on an elevator and discover that one of them is ol’ Scratch himself, the Devil.
Watch it below or in hi-res right here.
The Buzz: Well, that wasn’t what I expected. When I first heard about the film, a low-budget thriller set on an elevator made by the brothers who did Quarantine, I half-expected a smaller, dialogue-heavy film consisting of footage shot on an elevator security camera — something like a cross between Paranormal Activity and Tape. This Devil, though seems to be something a little weirder — and I have to say a little more exciting.
Call me crazy but I can’t believe Universal chose to market this film under Shyamalan’s name — especially after the critical drubbing the director has been getting as of late. While the trailer certainly makes me want to watch the film, I can’t escape that nagging voice in the back of my head that reminds me of all the times M. Night Shyamalan has let me down in the past. Let’s hope that the Dowdle brothers can reign in some of Shyamalan’s indulgences and deliver the classic thriller this movie has the potential to be.
I do love that poster, though.
