Merriman said he missed his teammates and the game too much to stay away any longer. Merriman had been holding out for an assurance that he wouldn’t be traded.
Merriman totaled 39½ sacks from 2005 through 2007, but struggled last year, posting only four sacks after sitting out almost the entire 2008 season because of two torn ligaments in his knee.
With Merriman in camp, the Chargers are left with two hold-out, Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill who are both looking for long term contracts.
