It appears as though Rafael Marquez will not be able to compete in his September 18 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Marquez injured his right thumb on a car door and doctors have told him he will be out 6-8 weeks. No official statement has been released regarding the status of Rafael Marquez for the September 18 bout.
Top Rank still hopes to go on with the show if Marquez cannot fight on September 18. Lopez is continuing his training and wants to fight someone on an equal level as Rafael Marquez. With only one month until the fight, however, Juanma’s options are limited.
UPDATE: The fight between Juan Manuel Lopez and Rafael Marquez is being rescheduled. The fight will likely take place within one month of the original September 18 date.
