Niemi was release by the Blackhawks after they couldn’t afford the raise he was given through arbitration.
Antti Niemi has decided to accept a one-year, $2 million deal with the San Jose Sharks.
After helping lead the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup title in 49 years, Niemi and Chicago went to salary arbitration with the Blackhawks submitting an offer of $1.5 million, but the arbitrator awarded Niemi $2.75 million.
The Blackhawks signed Marty Turco to fill in for Niemi. Niemi will now fill in for Evgeni Nabokov who was let go by the Sharks this offseason.
