MLB News: Florida Marlins SP Josh Johnson Shut Down For The Season

News

Johnson has been dealing with a bad back and today the team decided to shut him down.

Marlins ace Josh Johnson was having a great season carrying a 2.30 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 183 2/3 innings before he was shut down after his last start on Sept. 4. Johnson’s back had been a problem for the last few weeks and he said he actually woke up without pain for the first time today.

In that start Johnson matched his season high in strikeouts by fanning 12 Atlanta Braves.

“I’m not one to make excuses,” said Johnson. “Every now and then you could tell that things weren’t kind of right or were a little off.” Johnson pitched through a strained back earlier in the season.
