Broken Lizard Stands Up – DVD Review

DVD Reviews, Reviews

If you think 12 minutes of mediocre masturbation jokes is the funniest thing ever, then this is the stand up comedy DVD for you!

Originally a Comedy Central special, Broken Lizard Stands Up focuses on the troop behind cult classics like Super Troopers and Beer Fest, feature the crew doing variants of stand up humor (but not much of it funny). Throughout the show the Lizards take the stage in various formations, often one at a time, but also in pairs and groups to perform skits or tell stories (like the one mentioned above.) They all very in levels of funny, from the laughless masturbation jokes to the hilarious stories and everything in between.

Though, that’s not to say everything on this is disc isn’t funny. There is a bit where two of the Lizards share a story about when they first got into the Hollywood scene and got to meet their idol, Patrick Swayze (or P-Swayz as they kept calling him) and how they totally blew it. This was a really funny story and the best part of the show.

There is probably more I should say about this DVD, but frankly, I can think of nothing else to say. On a whole my viewing experience was very forgettable.

Broken Lizard Stand Up is presented in a widescreen format. Sound is in Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound. Your typical stand up DVD, looks and sounds fine.

Live Super Troopers Sketch: (7 min.) An intro sketch the guys did before the show began. They bring a couple guys up on stage and mess with them. Kind of funny.

On The Beard with Broken Lizard: (22 min.) Run of the mill behind the scenes kind of thing showing the guys as they go from venue to venue. There is one kind of funny bit where Linda Hamilton was in the audience.

Outtakes: (11 min.) A majority of this is just them doing their intro prayer over and over again. Not that funny.

If you’re a big Broken Lizard fan, you’ll probably really dig this stand up. However, if you weren’t amused by any of their films, then you probably won’t be amused by this either.
