Johnny Depp Close to Joining Tom Hanks in Sleeping Dogs

Casting News, News

So Tom Hanks is in discussions to star in a new drama directed by recent Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Now it seems that Paramount Pictures’ Sleeping Dogs (formerly titled Triple Frontier) may now have another star joining the two-time Oscar winner.

Deadline has an exclusive that Johnny Depp is in talks to star opposite Hanks in the film which is written by Oscar-award winning screenwriter Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker). The only thing that could stand in the way of Depp appearing in Sleeping Dogs is a scheduling conflict with his other projects. Shooting is scheduled to begin in February which is also the month that Depp will be filming Tim Burton’s big screen adaptation of Dark Shadows.

The premise of Sleeping Dogs surrounds a story of organized crime in the areas between Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. Depp and Hanks would most likely play two of the roles of five men whose story is told as they live and work in this high crime area.

Other names being discussed for the roles are Javier Bardem, Will Smith, Jeremy Renner, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christian Bale.
