Couture the latest high-profile Republican for Reid, joins more than 400 others
LAS VEGAS – Today Randy Couture, six-time UFC heavyweight champion, endorsed Senator Harry Reid for reelection. Couture issued the following statement:
“After 13 years competing in the UFC, I know what it takes to be a fighter. And I know no one is more dedicated or capable of fighting for Nevada families than Senator Harry Reid. Sen. Reid is also a UFC fan and a former boxer who doesn’t give up when times are hard. That’s why he’s never stopped fighting to create jobs and ensure Las Vegas remains the tourism capitol of America. Nevada can’t afford to lose that kind of leadership, especially during these difficult economic times.
“Nevada’s problems don’t affect just Republicans or Democrats or even Independents. They affect all Nevadans. In these uncertain times, we need nothing less than level-headed, proven leadership who can deliver real results. That’s why we don’t have time to gamble on our future with Sharron Angle. Our children deserve the best education, our workers need good jobs and our state needs someone who knows how to work for us. Now is not the time to listen to risky promises about what might happen tomorrow. We demand guarantees now. That’s why I support Sen. Harry Reid in his re-election in the U.S. Senate. Let’s re-elect our best fighter for Nevada’s families and move forward together with leadership that has proven they know how to get things done.”
In response to today’s endorsement by Randy Couture, Senator Reid said in a statement:
“I am proud and grateful to have the support of one of the most exciting champions UFC has ever had. UFC fans know there are few fighters that you’d rather have on your side than Randy, and I’m happy to know he’s standing on my side. I know how important autism awareness is to Randy Couture, and I know he speaks for many Nevadans when he disagrees with Sharron Angle’s extreme view that insurance companies shouldn’t have to cover anything at all. I look forward to watching Randy fight again soon right here in Las Vegas.”
Republicans for Harry Reid already includes a number of Republicans voicing their support for Senator Reid, including Republican strategist Sig Rogich, MGM Resorts International, CEO and Chairman Jim Murren, Former Nevada First Lady Dawn Gibbons, Entertainer Wayne Newton, UNR Football Coach Chris Ault, Civil Rights Leader Robert Bailey, NV Energy President and CEO Michael Yackira, and Nevada Rangers President Joe Gill.
