Wednesday Morning Backlash on TNA Turning Point 2010 Preview with Jeff Hardy, Matt Morgan, Samoa Joe, RVD

Columns, Top Story

I had this all written up by Wednesday, when I realized it spoiled the end of Impact this week, so decided to save it. Enjoy this and The Friday Morning Backlash with John Cena Turning Heel at Survivor Series 2010.

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Morgan for the TNA World Title – With Jeff Hardy having given expected challenger Mr. Anderson a concussion, his former ally Matt Morgan took issue due to the new studies showing how serious concussions are, so he was turned on by Jarrett, then beat up Eric Bischoff and took the match.

What should happen: Jeff Hardy needs a JJ Dillion style manager. This kind of manager doesn’t draw too much attention during matches, but helps with promos and has one important moment of cheating that leads to, but is not the cause of the finish. This is different than a Bobby Heenan style manager who’s involved and gaining attention at every moment, because he’s the one who needs the heat since he and his next protégé will be making the challenge next. Ric Flair is too animated to fill this role for Hardy, but having Bischoff outright be his manager would work.

What will happen: Anderson, who’s character is a moron, will take umbrage that Morgan stole his title shot and cost him the match, leading the two to feud.

The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Team 3-D for the TNA Tag Team Titles – 3-D is ready to retire, but one want more shot at the tag titles before they go.

What should happen: MCMG should win, sending 3-D into retirement for a bit until some heel team draws them out with a challenge.

What will happen: 3-D will win in this under-built match to continue the feud.

Jay Lethal vs. Robbie E for the X-Division Title – Robbie E, the Jersey Shore gimmicked pretty boy, has decided he wants to bring the X-Division title back to New Jersey… despite the fact that Lethal is also from New Jersey.

What should happen: Lethal should win and the X-Title should be re-built around his waste while Robbie, a heat machine, goes on to feuds about body spray or paying dues.

What will happen: The J-Woww stuff got TNA mainstream press, so they will confuse that with Robbie E being good for business and put him over Lethal, further devaluing the once proud X-Division.

Rob Van Dam vs. Tommy Dreamer – Since Jeff Hardy turned on him, RVD has been paranoid. Jeff played on this, stating one member of EV2.0 is a traitor, so RVD continually acts up. Dreamer is going to now try and knock some sense into him. Quite why this matters more to RVD than the TNA World Title he never lost has not been adequately explored.

What should happen: Dreamer and RVD should have a violent match, yet when RVD has it won, the heels should run in to threaten RVD, only to be saved by Dreamer and a united EV2.0. No swerve is needed here.

What will happen: RVD will lose when Dreamer finally sells out and is revealed to be the traitor. Dreamer should never, ever sell out, but here we are.

Mickie James vs. Tara – Apparently they hated one another in WWE or something.

What should happen: James should win to go on and feud for the title.

What will happen: James will win, only to be jumped post-match and keep this going.

EV2.0 vs. Fortune – Winning Team Fires a Member of losing Team – EV2.0, the extreme faction, are hated by Fortune, the future of wrestling and Flair, the past, neither of which respect their accomplishments. EV2.0 might have a traitor, while Doug Williams is having trouble with Fortune.

What should happen: Fortune should win outright, looking unified, giving us the opportunity to get rid of Raven or Sabu or whichever ECW Original is acting up backstage.

What will happen: Doug Williams will swerve EV2.0, leading to Fortune’s win.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Samoa Joe – Jarrett betrayed Joe at Bound for Glory for no adequately examined reason, and JJ has since mocked and attacked Joe. Joe is now going to kill him.

What should happen: This one has some legs, so JJ should go through his early TNA heel shenanigans to get the win and keep the feud going.

What will happen: Joe will likely win so he can move to the World Title picture, as I’d guess getting people ready for Hardy will be Jarrett’s current role.

Abyss vs. The Truth in a fan Lumberjack Match – Abyss is nuts so he kidnapped the Pope’s “congregation” (fans) and now the fans get revenge in a lumberjack match.

What should happen: Abyss should beat Pope and beat the crap out of a fan, as well, really putting him over as a monster.

What will happen: Since this is fan service, Pope will win, but Abyss will beat a fan to get his heat back.

Get the show? This show has a lot of interesting plots going on and while I don’t have a ton of faith in TNA to resolve them properly, I’m at least curious enough to recommend this as a buy. At worst, it should be entertaining, train wreck television. At best, we’ll get some good matches and better moments.
