Paranormal Activity Director to Tackle Edgar Allen Poe Tale

News, Projects

With the success of Paranormal Activity and its sequel many studios are keeping an eye on director Oren Peli. Peil, who directed the first PA and is following that with Area 51 (arriving in 2011), has been fielding offers but has finally settled on his next project.

Variety reports that Peli will direct Eliza Graves.

The film is based loosely on an Edgar Allen Poe short story. The loose adaptation will center on a Harvard Medical School grad who takes a job at an insane asylum. However, unbeknownst to him at the time of hiring, the occupants were already running the cuckoo’s nest.

The article goes on to discuss this project’s long-gestating status. Over the past decade a number of actors and actress were in discussions to be a part of it. Jodie Foster considered it as a directing vehicle, while Ian McKellan and Natalie Portman were mentioned in talks for starring roles.
