Thursday Morning Backlash on Fans Reaction to John Cena being Fired and Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett from WWE Raw

Columns, Top Story

Thursday is becoming Jake Ziegler day, so here he is… and Happy Thanksgiving one and all from all of us at InsidePulse Wrestling~

After last Sunday’s “Survivor Series” pay-per-view, John Cena was “fired” from the WWE. Immediately the cries came up about how stupid it is because no one believes he’s really gone. Like most people over the age of 12 or so, I also don’t think he’s really gone. But why does that automatically make it stupid?

If you seriously want to criticize the angle because you don’t believe in it, that’s fine. But do you believe that any other part of the show is any more real than this? It’s just part of a storyline. Now I don’t want to turn this into one of those “you should like everything and not complain” columns, or one of those “if you haven’t been in the ring you can’t criticize it,” because I think that’s stupid. If you don’t like something you have every reason to complain. But maybe you should just stop and think about WHY you don’t like it.

Remember when Stone Cold Steve Austin got fired by Vince McMahon at “Judgment Day” in 1998? How many of you then were complaining that there was no chance Austin was really fired? Of course he wasn’t, but we wanted to see how the storyline would play out and how he would get back on TV. Now of course Austin and Cena are different performers, but the storyline features the same principle, so why is it stupid now?

I also heard some complaints about the main event of Monday night’s “Raw” before it aired. Randy Orton was set to defend the WWE Title against Wade Barrett in a rematch of the previous night’s “Survivor Series” debacle. People complained that they had wasted their $45 (though many of them did no such thing since judging by recent buy rates they probably didn’t purchase the PPV anyway) since they had just done the match the night before. Remember the night after “WrestleMania X-7,” when Stone Cold defended his newly won WWE Championship against The Rock in a steel cage match? Which of you complained then?

Also, why is it that every time WWE does do an angle that works, some will immediately start the “well they’ll just screw it up” talk? Are you that jaded that you can’t enjoy anything, even for a week? If they screw it up so be it, and feel free to call them on it, but when WWE has a good night, just relax and enjoy it.

I hope this hasn’t come off as too negative. Certainly WWE is not perfect right now and there is a lot that they could be doing better. But are you really watching a Television program that you’ve known is scripted for years, and complaining that “of course Cena isn’t really gone?” Did you watch “24” and get all emo whenever Jack Bauer got captured, because you knew he was just going to escape and kill some terrorists anyway?

Homer Simpson once said to his loving wife Marge, “First you didn’t want me to get the pony, now you want me to take it back! Make up your mind!” Think about it.
