The Top 10 Heroclix of 2010: Marvel and DC

Reviews, Top Story

10. Wolfsbane – Web of Spider-Man – 65 pts

Stealth is awesome for dealing with Outwit, as are Traits. Wolfsbane combines Stealth with an amazing trait to be nearly impossible to hit. Shape Change and Super Senses is annoying. Add in Combat Reflexes for a 19 Defense in close, Stealth for immunity to Range, and blades to make anyone who bases her pay and you have one of the best first clicks in the game. Once hit she loses that big damage potential, so she’s merely good, not great, but when she’s awesome, she’s unbelievable.

9. Talia – Brave and the Bold – 86 pts.

Talia, when it was revealed she was a Bat and Super-Ally was deemed broken. She isn’t, but it’s damn close. Hiding in stealth to Outwit whatever she wants is deadly. Luckily, she only has 2 damage, although Psychic Blast makes it stick. She’s absurd against Stealth, being able to fire from 8 away and not fear return fire. Mastermind is perfect here, as it can’t be outwitted through Stealth (mostly), and at 86 pts, she has plenty of room for fodder to keep her top dial. If she’s knocked off top dial, she retains and 18 defense in close for while she tries to reposition and use her Ranged Combat Expert to deal yet more damage. If she was Gotham Keyworded she’d be broken. As is, with Politician and Spy, she makes for a must-play with either theme, giving the ranged based Spies a way to Outwit Stealth and the Politicians a way to get rid of Stealthed defenses.

8. Puma – Web of Spider-Man – 56 pts.

3 charge is absolutely his only weakness. Super Senses and Shape change is horribly annoying and, worse, he has BCF so if you miss, he can make you pay, big time. If he pushes, he’s on a 4 damage click, and if you get the attack through, 18 or 19 defense in close, Flurry with Blades and Outwit. That’s not impossible to deal with, but at a mere 56 pts, it’s damn close.

7. Green Lantern – DC 75th – 145 pts.

Welcome to Gotham City, GL. He’s this group’s first TK and Stealthbusting, as anyone he hits in Stealth can’t use it until their next turn. Running Shot with Psychic Blast is great and really makes the 3 damage mean more, and starting with Impervious is just fantastic. He has damage reducers all down the dial and even a click of Regen to get back to being awesome.

6. White Lantern Flash – DC 75th – 138 pts.

For 138 pts, the ability to user Hypersonic Speed with 14 speed and 8 range and, with Perplex, have 4 damage. Super Senses is good here, too, and 18 defense helps, even though the TK isn’t all that useful, the great damage and mobility make him elite. Better still, his Shape Change that heals him makes him a pain to get rid of and he remains at least a harasser all the way down his dial. He’s un-pushable thanks to Force Blast on Click 2 rather than HSS and he has no useful Keywords, or he’d be farther up on the list.

5. Jason Blood/Etrigan – Brave and the Bold – 44 pts.

Mystical has fast become one of the better keywords in the game and Blood is who we have to thank for that. He deals Mystic damage, of course, and he offers Probability Control and he has 18 or 19 defense at range. That’s a huge pain to deal with. Add in that when he transforms to Etrigan he keeps the Prob and Mystic TA, but adds Perplex, Toughness and Blades and you have what is clearly a world class figure.

4. Nightcrawler – Web of Spider-Man – 86 pts.

One of the most debated figures in the game, Nightcrawler makes Martial Artists and X-Men awesome for his first two clicks. He has the amazing ability to Hypersonic Speed and move whoever he hits the rest of his speed with him. Better, he ignores characters and terrain for movement. Better, he has Shape Change and Super Senses. Better, his Super Senses, when hit, allows him to teleport half his speed away. Better, he has 19 Defense and Stealth. 3 Damage or 11 attack, preferably the latter, and he’s the best click in the game. When Cyclops comes out to allow him to heal two clicks via the X-Men TA, he goes further up the list.

3. Amazon – Brave and the Bold – 50 pts.

With an Amazon, 4 Move Charge, Super Strength to hit for 5 damage, 19 defense in close, and 11 attack. When faced down with 4 of these, especially with Amazon ATA putting Sisterhood tokens on Attack, Speed, or Range, and the enemy, any enemy, has a problem.

2. Beast Boy – DC 75th – 60 pts

And then they went and Made Teen, Animal and Teen Titans awesome. Beast Boy alone is a good tie up, with Leap Climb and a full dial of Shape Change, he’s pretty solid. He can, of course, change what he does based on situation with a move action, at will. The Bear is a good attack and damage figure with Blades and Toughness, the Cheetah can use Hypersonic Speed to pick off support or, with a touch of Perplex, do more, and the T-Rex, well the T-Rex alone could have made the list. The T-Rex is 4 damage against up to 3 adjacent targets, great attack, defense and damage. The sheer options, Cheetah for picking off support, Bear against one big enemy, and T-Rex against a swarm, are just must-play.

1. Bullseye – Web of Spider-Man – 117 pts.

Add in 8 points for Thunderbolts ATA and you have what amounts to a 14 Range (Running Shot and 10 Range) along with 3 damage. He can carry an object while he does this, dealing an extra 1 penetrating, leading people to not want to base him. He’s a bit vulnerable at range, but can running shot into a 19 Defense in close and then choose to use that object for extra damage or just blast away in close with Sharpshooter. He ignore Super Senses and Shape Change, so his huge attack, starting at 12 and never going below 10 can kill nearly anyone. Thunderbolts is an awesome keyword, but just as good is Martial Artist and with him and the aforementioned Nightcrawler, it will be a shock if they don’t rock at GenCon.
