Zac George, IFL vet, joins Bellator Featherweight Tournament

News

It was announced Monday that Zac George (20-3) has singed with Bellator and will take part in their upcoming Featherweight tournament that is slated to begin in March. Following Georgi Karakhanyan, Nazareno Malegarie, Wilson Reis, and Daniel Straus he becomes the fifth participant in what will eventually be a 8 man field to determine the number one contender to Joe Warren’s title. The winner will also receive $100,000.

George has not fought since October of 2009 when he submitted Bryan Goldsby. He has had contract problems with Shine Fights that have kept him sidelined since then. Originally he was scheduled to fight on their pay-per-view card in May of last year but that show was cancelled by the North Carolina Boxing Authority. George has yet to be paid for that show but he finally won his release back in July and now by signing with Bellator will be stepping onto the biggest stage of his career.

The tournament, which will run throughout the duration of Bellator’s fourth season will be broadcast on MTV2 after a deal with FX fell through. The season will also see tournaments held in the lightweight and welterweight divisions along with an inaugural one in their brand new light heavyweight division.
