10 Thoughts On… Dancing With The Stars 12 Episode 2 Performance Review

Columns, Reviews, Top Story

1. I want to start by saying that I was not impressed with the judging tonight at all. It’s funny because earlier in the day I was interviewed about judging on reality shows and how much of it is designed to be objective versus being entertaining for TV, but let’s call a spade a spade. Anna and Sugar Ray did much better than they were given credit for and certainly did not deserve the same score that they got last week. They were much better.

2. I thought the judges were also unnecessarily rough on Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas. Their routine was picture-perfect and very entertaining. It actually seemed like a routine that was actually near the end rather than a first or second week piece. They deserved much better than an 18.

3. Kym Johnson and Chelsie Hightower are so hot this season that I think they are honestly melting the dance floor.

4. I am sorry to keep harping on the judging but I thought that they gave Hines Ward too much credit. I thought the Steeler was great last week, but wasn’t amazing this time around.

5. Ralph Macchio is much better than I thought he would be. Maybe that’s because I didn’t know who Ralph Macchio was.

6. Why was Wendy Williams obsessed with lipstick on her teeth. She checked in multiple times in her post-dance interview and even asked her partner about it.

7. Actually, why was lipstick such a prevailing theme on last night’s show. Lacey kissed Mike’s bicep. Kym kissed Hines and then somehow got it on him and herself. And then there was Wendy. We get it. Lipstick.

8. Loved Anna’s short hair!

9. I am interested in hearing what you think about Romeo. I think he is coming off as unlikeable. You?

10. Kirstie Alley is the opposite. She is dancing well and when she dropped the ‘winning’ line I was rolling with laughter. I think she might be a contender.

Here are the scores for all the couples after the second episode.

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff: 45 (21)
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: 44 (23)
Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy: 43 (20)

Romeo and Chelsie Hightower: 42 (23)
Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas 39 (18)
Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett and Louis van Amstel: 37 (19)
Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin: 36 (18)
Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya: 34 (17)
Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani: 31 (17)
Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer: 30 (17)
