CB’s World Special Commentary: On Edge’s Retirement

Columns, Top Story

After Edge’s speech, I was, well, speechless.

No words I write here will soften the heavy blow that just hit the WWE, the heavy blow that just hit me.

Penny said, just this past Friday, she wants to know if Mark Calloway can walk.

Thank God Edge still can.

That he won’t have to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Edge said that if he had to do it all over again, all of the traveling, the injuries, the surgeries, everything, that he would in a heartbeat.

Thank God Edge’s heart still beats.

You know that scene in ‘The Wrestler’, when Mickey Rourke’s character Randy “The Ram” goes for one last Ram Jam?

The credits then roll, and we’re left wondering if that was not only The Ram’s one last move off the top rope, but Randy’s last breath as well.

Thank God tonight wasn’t Edge’s last breath.

On Tough Enough tonight, Stone Cold Steve Austin addressed the contestants at the beginning of the show, saying he’s seen people paralyzed in the ring, and he’s seen people die in the ring, so they better respect that ring every single time they enter through those ropes.

I hope they listened, and tonight I hope they watched one of the best of his era hold back tears when his career was just cut short.

Right now, as I write this, I am thinking about all those times I marked out for all those high spots — the Ladder matches, the TLC matches, all those concertos — where I was on the edge of my seat for Edge, Christian, Matt, Jeff, Bubba Ray, Devon, and the list goes on, and on, and on…

In addition to saying “Thank You Edge”, shouldn’t we also be apologizing?

Thank you Edge.

I’m sorry Adam…
