South Park: The Complete Fourteenth Season – Blu-ray Review

Blu-ray Reviews, Reviews

Fourteen seasons in and South Park continues to impress. Just when you think they can’t get anymore impressive, stranger or offensive while still providing biting commentary on a range of current events, you better think again!

Starting with “Sexual Healing” which pokes fun at Tiger Woods and other celebrities with who’ve had public sex problems, season fourteen tackles the sprouting up of Medicinal Marijuana Stores, Facebook, the image of Muhammad, angry celebrities, Intervention, NASCAR, all those Jersey shows, hoarding, Inception, BP and oil spills, cooking shows and the shake weight.

And with all that they still find time to focus on the kids and provide some very interesting fascinating and even disturbing character development. In the two-parter “200” and “201,” which brings back a plethora of old South Park characters, Eric Cartman learns the awful truth about how his father really is. Then in the Coon and Friends three-parter, the truth (or part of it at least) about the fact that Kenny always comes back from the dead after being killed is finally brought to light.

The most frustrating thing about this release is that “201” is still presented edited as it did the one and only time it was aired on Comedy Central. So you still don’t get to hear the big speech at the end.

Two final thoughts:

1) Cthulu animated as a South Park character is fricking amazing!
2) Mint-Berry Crunch is one of the greatest superheroes ever!

Shablagoo!

The episodes are presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby TrueHD English 5.1. These episodes look and sound phenomenal. SouthPark has really never looked better.

Mini Commentaries: Once again, Matt and Wes talk for a few minutes about each episode giving all the insight they feel is necessary. These are always interesting.

Bonus Episode: “The Coon”: Since the second and third parts of this three-parter occur in the fourteenth season, it only makes sense to include the first part as an extra.

Deleted Scenes: (6 min.) There is actually some pretty funny stuff here, some only presented in storyboard form.

This is yet another fantastic season of South Park! I really don’t know what else to say. The fourteenth season contains some of the best episodes I’ve seen on South Park. If you love this show this is absolutely a must own!
