On Friday, the trio known as the West Memphis 3 were released after being incarcerated for 18 years for the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys who were found next to a muddy creek in the wooded Robin Hood Hills area of West Memphis, Ark.
Their story has been well documented in the films Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills and Paradise Lost 2: Revelations.
Regarding the court decision, musicians, documentary filmmakers, authors, etc. have taken to Twitter to voice their reactions.
Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines, who was present in the courtroom, wrote, “Beautiful things went down in Arkansas today. Beautiful beautiful things.”
Fahrenheit 9/11 director Michael Moore tweeted, “WestMemphis3 to b freed after 18 yrs!!! 18 yrs of their lives STOLEN from them. Saved by a documentary! Thank u JoeBerlinger & BruceSinofsky.”
Rock Musician Henry Rollins wrote, “WEST MEMPHIS THREE. FIND OUT ALL YOU CAN. BIG DAY.”
Locke & Key comic writer Joe Hill, son of Stephen King, was also happy to see justice prevail. “The West Memphis three just got cut loose. What a great thing,” he tweeted.
