CM Punk Continues His “Feud” With Steve Austin, Talks The Rock and Brock Lesnar

News, Top Story

WWE champion CM Punk appeared on the Fox D.C. affiliate Monday morning promoting Monday’s Raw TV taping. The highlight of the extended-length interview segment was Punk continuing to play up a feud with retired WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

After noting his dream WrestleMania opponents would be William Regal or Daniel Bryan, Punk said the real answer is Austin. He then took a playful jab that he doesn’t think Austin is in a position to call him out because he’s a step down from him now.

“He’s hunting and retired and enjoying his life and doing straight-to-DVD movies,” Punk said, extending the content of their Twitter feud to D.C. television.

Also in the interview, Punk talked about carrying the torch from old-school to modern-day WWE, and name-dropped Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, and Randy Savage as his inspirations. Punk mainly focused on Piper. Asked if he prefers physical contact or verbal trash-talking, Punk said he’s “always been a microphone guy,” taking a page from Piper.

At the end of the interview, Punk endorsed The Rock, saying Rock won him over after WrestleMania. As for Brock Lesnar, Punk said he’s in wait and see mode.

“The Rock has proved me wrong and him coming back has been great,” Punk said. Punk followed by saying Brock left WWE eight years ago with a cloud hanging over him when he “cracked” under the pressure of being WWE champion, so he’s not sure how Lesnar will respond now.

Other topics included Punk saying he believes he’s on John Cena’s level now, WWE cameras following him around during WrestleMania Weekend to document his life (presumably for his forthcoming DVD), and misplacing his pants in the morning before the interview.
