Our Lady Peace, a well-known Canadian rock band, recorded WWE Superstar Chris Benoit’s theme song around 2003 and had been playing it consistently at live shows up until the Benoit tragedy that took place 5 years ago.
In a recent interview, frontman Raine Maida & guitarist Steve Mazur were asked if they ever still play Benoit’s theme entitled “Whatever”.
“I couldn’t imagine singing that to be honest, it’s so tied into him and the tragedy that happened, I just couldn’t get it out of my head,” says Mazur.
Maida adds they’ve removed the song from their catalog. Chattman thinks it “sucks” they no longer play it since it’s such a “kickass” song.
Quick Quip: During those years, I had seen Benoit and Our Lady Peace live & the song was great, both for his character and as a song unto itself. That being said, if it was me, I couldn’t even fathom playing that song again after what happened in 2007.
