Wonder Woman Spoilers: How Do You Really Shake Up The Gods?

Spoilers

Wonder Woman delivered its fair share of epic in this weeks issue, but more than that, it restructured the pantheon as far as the DC Universe is concerned. Starting with Apollo taking his seat on Zeus’s throne, which Hera believed would summon back her long absent husband to obliterate the usurper she personally put in place. Unfortunately for her, the lightning and quaking isn’t the return of Zeus…it’s Mount Olymus being rebuilt in Apollo’s image, from an old mountain with stone structures into, what I can gleam from the single panel we have of it, a giant skyscraper.

From there he exiles Hera, stripping her of her Godhood, and sending her back to the middle of nowhere where Zola is giving birth. No sooner than she’s done though…and Hermes has made off with the newborn, taking the child to Demeter. The child prophesied to slay a God to take the throne now lays there crying, stolen from its mother as Hermes explains that it would have much to cry about later.

The cliffhanger the issue leaves us with, a scarred and bloody arm reaching out of the ground, a familiar helmet, a giant boom, and two simple words.

How do you really shake up the Gods in the New 52? You bring back the New Gods.
