Another week for the Comic Nexus weekly buying guide. We can’t get comic books any earlier than Wednesday afternoons, the same as anyone reading this guide.

Staff Picks

The following section, the members of the Comic Nexus Staff give their opinions of the book they are most looking forward to this week:

James Fulton Wonder Woman #14
Wonder Woman has been terrific since the relaunch, as Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang (and sometime Tony Akins) have taken a character I’ve never liked, and made her book into one of the most creative and original of the New 52. Diana deals with endless amounts of family drama, and the New Gods are being reimagined within this series. Great art, writing that is full of puns and wordplay, and a killer story – this series appeals to a broad readership.
Mike Mailaro – X-Factor #247
My book of the week: X-Factor #247 – After the end of 246, I have been literally counting down the days to X-Factor 247. This is just about the first time in history I have been grateful for Marvel’s two book a month schedule. It has been a VERY long two weeks waiting to see what happened to Pip. And besides all that, the cover with Jamie Madrox fighting Civil War era zombies is just pretty damn cool. Definitely the first book I am buying and reading this week!
Grey Scherl  Indestructable Hulk #1
I am not a Hulk fan, never really have been, never really will be. I have tried multiple runs by multiple writers, and while I liked him as a Gladiator, my favorite Hulk’s have been in movies and cartoons. Two years ago I could have said virtually the same thing about Daredevil. Why is that relevant? Because Mark Waid is writing the Hulk, and that makes it a must buy. Waid is the master of making any character interesting, and I have been waiting on the edge of my seat to see what he has in mind concerning the Hulk.
Indy Book of the Week – Harbinger #6 & X-O Manowar #7 (Valiant Comics)
Our independent book of the week comes from Joe Smith:It’s a tie for me this week as I am eagerly anticipating both Harbinger and X-O Manowar. Harbinger sees the beginning of the Resistance and X-O begins his team-up with Ninjak. The focus on each respective book has been on each main character, but now it looks like we’ll see this focus expanding starting this month. I have not felt let down by either of these titles each month. These titles have been bringing it and have been incredibly consistent. They are the first ones that I want to read when they come out.
Trade of the Week – Nexus Omnibus Volume 1
Additionally each week, we also want to spotlight a trade paperback that would be a good addition to a collection. This week, I’ve selected the new Nexus Omnibus hardcover edition being published by Image Comics (listing at $24.99)(Amazon lists the available date for this title as December 04, 2012, listing for $16.49)

Lots of time you read a book because you have a favorite character, favorite wrtiter, or it was a book that collects a favorite series you enjoyed from your youth. But then, there are books you just always wanted to read, but never got around to it.

Nexus was one of those books. A book that had a really good name, a really good look, and got really good reviews. Plus this is the book that “made” writer Mike Baron and Steve “The Dude” Rude.

The name conection is purely coincidental.

Conclusion

The Valiant books get the best rankings for the week, as well as a high recommendation from Joe Smith. Hope that this guide helps you make some intelligent choices.
