Perhaps the most-talked about new show of last season was Smash. I certainly had high expectations for the show, not only because of its stellar cast but also because of its fresh dramatic-perspective on the relatively nouveau and Glee-popularized concept of the television-musical. While reviews were mixed to say the least, I thought that the show delivered in every regard. Instead of nauseating the audience with relentless song after song, I thought that the numbers were carefully placed into each script and that they had much more meaning. The premise of a new actor going against a veteran to secure the lead role in a musical is one that has been done many times, but the absolutely brilliant performances of both Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty really sold the rivalry as one of the best on TV last year.
At CTV’s upfront presentation last year, I had the chance to catch up with Megan Hilty to discuss the second season of the show.

Smash’s two-hour second season premiere airs tonight on CTV Two and NBC at 9 p.m.
