Floyd Mayweather has been “Money” his entire career, so far, and it’s not looking like he’ll continue to be so for the time being. How so? Early reports are speculating that Mayweather/Guerrero is trending “well under” 1 million PPV buys. Dan Rafael of ESPN and Kevin Iole of Yahoo are reporting that unofficially the PPV isn’t going to break the rumored 1.1-1.2mm buys the PPV needed for Showtime to break even.
What does this mean? So far we don’t know as it’s all speculation but based on web traffic alone my guess is that “well under” is probably somewhere between 800-850k buys or so. Mayweather didn’t do nearly the traffic to Inside Fights, unfortunately, for this fight as he did for his last two. Neither did Manny Pacquiao for the fourth Marquez fight, either. At this point it’s pure speculation and until we get some hard numbers from sources on the record it’s just talking points.
