How I Met Your Mother – “Something Old”
I’ve had it. Had it! I hated this episode so, so much. HIMYM has ruined their show. They’ve made me hate Barney and Robin by making Barney incredibly unlikable, and by making Robin seem painfully unsure about marrying him. I’ll never be invested in them as a couple. And bringing romantic tension between Robin and Ted to the forefront AGAIN? How many times are we going to pass that tree? Not only does it sour Robin’s commitment to Barney, but it sours me on the idea of Ted meeting the love of his life at their wedding. That doesn’t feel right if he still has lingering feelings for Robin. Ugh, ugh, UGH.
New Girl – “Winston’s Birthday”
This episode was fantastic, and an amazing payoff to the slow build of Nick and Jess’s relationship. Bringing her dad into the mix and the most inopportune time created a lot of hilarious chaos, but also forced them to really think about their feelings for one another. The comedy was dead on – my only concern is Cece’s marriage next week. I feel like the show has no choice but to go through with it. I don’t mind Shivrang as a recurring character and straight man to the bigger personalities, and I’d like to see more of Schmidt and Merritt Weaver anyway. Cece not going through with the wedding would be too predictable.
Best moment: “Burkas isn’t you guys, is it?”
The Mindy Project – “Frat Party”
I wish I’d liked this episode of Mindy, but the brawl at the frat party was too over the top. There were great moments, like Danny trying to woo Morgan back to the practice with a puppy and Casey trying to win Mindy back after announcing he’s spending a year in Haiti. But the level of chaos this week rose above quirky and funny, and into eye-rolling territory. I hope for a better season finale.Best moment: The cold open with Mindy and Casey in the shower was the perfect combination of slapstick physical comedy and funny, clever takes on human moments.
Modern Family – “My Hero”
This was one of the best Modern Family episodes from this season, I think. I liked what it brought out in Cam and Mitch, playing up their usual traits without feeling repetitive or making it seem like they don’t love one another. I loved that Cam wasn’t jealous of Mitch and his ex, instead he was jealous of Mitch’s family – their family – and Mitch’s ex. Anytime the whole gang gets together, good things happen on this show. Manny trying to choose a hero from his family, Phil teaching Gloria to rollerskate, and Claire freaking out about her dad’s job offer all worked really well to create a fun, somewhat frantic evening. There were some truly lovely Haley and Alex moments as well, which I always love.
Best moment: Claire says Jay used to tell her “Princess, coffee pot’s not going to wash itself.” Phil exclaims “That’s where you got that?”
The Big Bang Theory – “The Love Spell Potential”
This episode was all about the progress made with Sheldon and Amy, and that was actually quite sweet. I didn’t think it was the funniest episode the show has ever done, but I really loved how Jim Parsons delivered his lines in that bedroom scene with Amy. Very well done.
Community – “Advanced Introduction to Finality”
I assume this was a series finale – the show should not be renewed. I hated this episode, and I’ve been disappointed in this season overall. I wish I’d stopped watching last season.
The Office – “A.A.R.M.”
We’ll get this out of the way first: Andy’s storyline was abysmal. They’ve been that way for a long time now. Let’s pretend that didn’t happen, because without it this was a lovely episode of The Office. I’m a little skeptical about next week’s episode. Two hours? Srsly? I don’t know guys. It feels like a lot.
Best moments: The teapot note, Darryl’s dancing exit.
